OEM Oil Filter or Oversized?
OEM Oil Filter or Oversized?
At a local Advance Auto Parts store, I was getting a new Oil Filter. So I asked the store clerk if he recommends an Oversized Oil Filter or a OEM regular size.
The Answer: He strictly adivce against an oversized Oil Filter for the following reasons:
1) Lower Compression Ratio. ?!!!
2) The Oil pump has to overtaxed and work at an overload.
3) You need more Oil for larger capacity Oil Filter
What is the concensus here?

Those are some classic auto parts store clerk observations. Totally false. I used the Mobil I M105 oversized filter last oil change and the oil has stayed noticably cleaner. The only possible issue would be if the bypass spring inside the filter were incompatible with the car it was on. Then the oil might not get filtered properly. Does anyone know what car the oversized filter is for?
I have used the Amsoil sdf44 filter which is 30% est oversized,, I have not notice any problems. I also get my oil analyzed,, if there was any excessive problems it would have shown up there. Do a search,, there are many opinions out there on this subject. I haven't found any test data but if you do post it please... Also I have always put in five qts at every 10k change time and add 0.25 qt at my 5k filter change. So IMO oversize is ok on our cars. PS the blackstone are holding up after 7k miles. The lower hanger rubber broke because it's streched to tight,, do all the units pull this mount this tight??
Your still pumping opil at the same rate. Just because there is a bigger filter, and a tad more oil, doesn't hurt the oil pump, it's always pumping to begin with
Lower compression ration....that has dick to do with the oil volume and filter.
