Octane Booster

Any of you guys try octane boosters? I know some crazy guys are mixing neat toluene & pump gas to bump up their octane in especially in california with only 91.

i put in 101 octane gas from the track in my car once... it ran same times that it ran when it had 93 octane gas... i dun think it gives us any more whp like on the new accords.

I haven't added any to my CL-S but I previously brewed my own for my old Typhoon.

93 might be the sweet spot.

IMO, CA's 91 octane is not too great and always got a bit more punch with 93-95 octane (by mixing-in) 100-octane 76. (It is quite possible that the gains had NOTHING to due with the octane, but with the different fractions.

I guess that's one thing that us east coast guys have that the west coast guys don't. 93 is the only thing I've put in my CLS.

It doesn't make up for all the snow and cold weather we get tho'

There are a few places that sell 101-103 race gas around here. Most of the oldtimers know where the places are. It's a word of mouth type of thing. My step-dad clued me into a place, but I don't have a need for it.

I've read(somewhere recently) that the detergents in higher octane gas can actually provide less spark than lower octane gasses...

I think it was on CNN somewhere...I'll see if I can't find it.

as I understand it what we call octane is really "anti-knock factor" and that a car preforms best at the lowest octane possible without any knocking and retarding of timing (thus power loss) so if you aren't experiancing power loss from knocking boosting the octane should do anything (it might actually reduce performance) That's just what's I've been taught I could completely off base though, prehaps some of our wiser memeber can shed a little more light on it.

BTW I run Gate 93

I've been meaning to try a bottle of this to see if I can get my timing retard down to 0. If it works it's cheaper than race fuel.

torco race fuel concentrate
-> power products -> accelerator
