Observation and Question about A ..............

HP and torque numbers. Recently I went into the Acura web site to see the new car models and possibly any technological changes/advancement since 2003. I notice when looking at the TL and RSX Type S HP numbers it seem to have been de-tuned or decrease from the original number. TL had previously 270 HP and it states 258 HP and the RSX type S was 210 HP and now it down to 201 HP. Is this correct? What is going on? Does that mean that my CL-S 6spd does not have 260 HP? Is Acura going through the same issue such as Mazda with RX-8 which was considered false advertisement of HP numbers. Can Anyone clarify this?

The numbers have been corrected by SAE standards to make them more accurate. There was at least one thread about this already that had all the detailed info

Like spdy said... new SAE standards. Therefore no more bitching and complaining between company and company about under/overstating their HP/TQ claims....

Well the thing is that our 260hp engines crank out about 215whp at the wheel. That's a reasonable 17.3% drivetrain loss. So I bet our 260 would still be roughly 215whp SAE corrected.

I'm talking about the 6speeds.

The auto's obviously have higher drivetrain losses and will dyno less. Regardless, our car's weren't over or under-rated!

So are car makers all using the same numbers now where they weren't before? Could that be why BMWs tend to perform better in real life than their HP would indicate? And how could the numbers vary in the first place? If I give identical bricks to ten people to weigh on accurate scales, I should get very, very close to the same weight every time. How is measuring engine output different?

Will the HP threads ever stop? There are at least 500,000 of these on Acurazine.
