Note to anyone thinking of selling their 6 Speed

...You will miss it. I sold mine a year ago because I had another car and man I wish I still had her. The clean lines of the interior, the fantastic clutch (once learned), the fun of driving her like a sane person in the city and a nut everywhere else ... all that with the reliability of a bullet.

Saw one today and figure I'd warn those thinking of selling

Don't know what you got till its gone.

Most Cl owners and people in general will always look ahead and say they want something better and are never satisfied and give the cl shit. Then they get rid of it and realize they miss it.

Street are you saying the cl is so bad only a geo is worse than it? That would be a sillly comment if that is what you mean.

It should be in red text but i do think CL is great car i love it and its really hard to find replacement for this car. Im just lil upset that my gives me alot problems lately but that is probably all my fault. Like i said i love the car and this the only reason i didnt give it up yet.

Every time I drive my car I fall in love with it all over again. But when I think about what Ive done to it and what I could be driving now had I just kept my old Prelude, I cry a little.

I don;t miss it overall. But there are a few features I do miss. Like the ability to turn at great speeds & have the car stick. I'm finding the SRT8 has too much power to do this & found myself going sideways on turns. Had to learn to go easy on the gas. I can improve the handing but I have to spend $ I don't have.
And the CLS is just smaller. Not much to be said on that one common sense there...The SRT8 is a pain to park sometimes.
And the lack of a stick.
Really that's the only 3 things I miss. As I said overall I'm in a overall better car for me.

My brother just looked at an '03 CL-S six speed today. He really liked it and intends to buy it. It has 105K miles without the 105K service being done yet so he will have to get that done. Is $6800 a good price? Too much?

Id work the seller down to $6300 or so due to the 105k service.

I think the guy was asking for $7300 or $7500 for the car. I haven't browsed around the CL section much, but it looks like people enjoy the 6 speed and it's reliable.

I sold mine for 6900 a year ago with 165k on it so if its in good shape I'd pick it up. The 105 shouldnt cost more than 600 or 700 if he buys the parts and sources the labor from the back of a honda dealership.

This.

But from a negotiation standpoint, the 105k service is $1200 from the dealer

Myself personally I'd steer clear of a car that immediately needs a service after I buy it. Not just a money thing. Just seems kinda crap having to plunk down money then immediately take it in for service. Iunno It's like an added inconvenience. It's like buying a house knowing that it needs a bunch of remodeling done.

Do you really want to know?
4400lbs & 450ish HP(after some mods)

About 13.5 if I keep the pedal light. All city. I should be at 20 all HW though. So my next road trip shouldn't hurt as much.

Just got my 6MT tranny fluid changed for the first time....buttttta'....

Yeah, I could imagine missing the car if it were gone. Its actually a useful car. Plenty of power, pretty good on fuel, and if you got a couple kids, they fit in the trunk...I mean back seat....

hell ya, I'm rocking 2 baby seats in the back of mine

I can relate to this thread though. I bought my 1st CLS-6 in 04/2003, drove it for 4 years and 72k miles and sold it in 07.

3 years of driving an 05 RL was not cutting it for me and I sold it and bought another CLS6 in 02/2010. I just passed 71K miles this morning...almost exactly where I was 4 years ago when I sold my first CL.

I thought perhaps that the beast had some kind of electronic cylinder management to give you a hand in that regard.

Pretty sure that's on the 2012's. At least for sure it is on the 2012 Jeep SRT8.

Always have liked the CL. No matter how many people talk shit about it. One needs to put that aside, and realize it's a great purchase.

every car has its faults including this one.

I do love my car very much and I think when it's going to be time to let it go, it's going to be very hard. Hopefully that won't be for a long while. I really do miss it after not driving it for a few days (I take the bus to work most of the time).

Too bad there aren't smaller SRT cars. I drove a challenger 392 and 300 SRT8 this weekend and while it's great power, they are both long as heck.

Its funny, I can hop into my brothers 08 Accord which is better equipped and obviously 5 years newer, yet it still doesnt do anything for me. The only way I will get rid of the CL is if its totaled or rusts away to nothing. The engine has 44k miles on it, the tranny has 50k. The important bits are basically brand new. Its got plenty of power for what it is and what it does, and I like not having a car note. I have no interest in replacing it. There is nothing on the market, daily driver wise. Anything that does interest me is more of a weekend car, which is exactly what Im saving up for. Two more years and I will own the car I have my eyes on. Id have one now if it werent for ridiculous insurance costs.

That's what I thought. But being past 100K & needing $2K in work plus already sinking $1300 in for a steering rack & timing belt, then I was looking at the prospect of a new clutch which is not cheap with labor. It didn't make financial sense to keep it for me. Wait another year & I'd get almost nothing for the car. I should have sold it in January before I did the work it needed & under 100K. I would have gotten a lot more out of it.
But it is a great car & served me well. Most reliable car I ever had.

I can see how that situation would sway your decision. If I were smart and looked at the market trend, I probably could have waited about a year before I bought the CL and saved a couple grand. Ive already done the 105k service. The clutch is new. Im just keeping up on maintenance and keeping the car running. If something big were to happen, Id reevaluate my stance, but for now, theres nothing on the market that can give me the same power, equipment, and gas mileage without spending $30k plus. The V6 Mustang comes close, but the back seat is worthless and Im still not entirely sold on the interior. I also like having a car that not everyone else has.

If I lived in Texas or Arizona, Id have no qualms about ditching the CL and driving an Elise/Exige every day. Hell, if a Caterham Se7en had a/c, I wouldnt hesitate to use that as my daily.

Aww I didnt know you sold the cl fuzzy. You were the only other original owner still on here with their cl I was aware of. I'm sure there are still a few tho. I will be keeping mine for many many more years to come unless it gets wrecked.

I guess I get this from my mom. She has a 99 bmw M roadster with only 20k miles and it is still like new mint condition no rust at all. It seems every time she takes it somewhere someone leaves a note asking about wanting to buy it.
