nooooo, my first time losing. lost to a 540i
My friend got a 98 540 a few weeks ago and we've been wanting to go at it for some time.
Both of your cars are bone stock autos.
it was a freezing 21 degrees out, so we head out to are spot:
1st run: i launched way way way to hard and spun all the way to 50ish and also banged the rev limiter i was soo nervous, i saw tail lights for the first time while racing
2nd run: i leave it in d5 this time w/ a better launch but still some squeeling, i get the jump and i lead 1/4-1/2 a car to the middle of 2nd gear then he passed me and i shut down
i'm sooo pissed right now, but i had to lose sometime. this makes me want to get the headers even more now. hopefully i'll have i/h by the spring. i think i can take him w/ the headers

also, wat make you think you are the quickest car in this planet?
Lost to a 540 with your stock car... DUH!!!!!!!!!!! they are V8, and check out their gear ratio, then you will know why you loose! stock CLS Vs. 540 = 540 OWN you! Evn you had a perfect launch, with the torque + autoban gearing, he will pass you in a zip!

How do I know? A friend of mine has a 540i auto. Fast car, yes.. But not TOTALLY out of our league.
BTW.. A Crown Vic has a V8.. Does that mean it will OWN us?

Good race. Be glad your friend didn't have the 6 speed or you would have saw tail-lights in the first couple of seconds. I/H you would have probably taken him, being that he is auto.

540i auto quicker than CL-S auto, gets props...Stang 5 spd quicker than 540i auto and driver's race against 6spd, but gets no props......

...I think its because the 540 costs more than the stang. Mustangs are too cheap to be respected. Personally, I find it more gratifying to beat someone who hates my car and thinks they're faster.
I.E. the poor guy in the XK8,whom I walked past at 110, that got so mad he had to do a fly-by and passed people on the shoulder to get ahead of me. I guess it really pissed him off when I (safely)got in front of him (while he was still flooring it) and flipped on the hazards...hahaha...gotta love cheap hp!

The mods are still with the car. The dealer didn't care since i was a valued customer and I was buying the qx4 from them anyway, repeat business.

540 has always been a V8, hence the "40". My old 525i had a 2.5L straight six. The 535s are 3.5L I6. Of course the newer 540 is a 4.4 not a 4.0 anymore, but you get the idea.

well darrin, all i have to say is, you win some you lose some....it's just that damn BMW power...i'm waiting for you to get your headers so we can take a crack at installing them...

I like the 540, good looking and good performance. So you lost, on paper, ya the 540 wins, real life the 540 will beat your car 8-9 times outta 10 maybe even 10 but nothing to be ashamed off. Shoot I got out pulled by a modded WS6 from a 35mph roll tp 90mph. had stopped the gap widening at about 80mph when the K04's were finally in their element. Was fun, lost, but was fun.

Yep, I dont post about it though on the AW board. Have the RS4 K04's with the impellers redone at a different pitch so that they spool up quicker. Very smooth, alot smoother than the K03's with this big a car. Havent had the chance to get to the track, but with Gtech times it ran 13.4's with 4.8's-4.9's 0-60mphs with 29 lb wheels, 91 octane, and car had been running for an hour. had a clear stretch on the same street where I do all my timed runs so tried it out. Still dont have the K04 software yet, still being tweaked. Ran the old K03 software. have even run the stock ECU and it is very nice. No times for that but it does pull better after 30mph. Not a rocket or anything but nice and better than with K03's. ALot smoother. I run the stock ECU alot now at least till I get the K04 detuned program since I am a Tip. SHould be about 350hp-370hp and 340lbs. Plus its setup to come on later so that the tranny doesnt get overwhelmed. Oops sorry to be so wordy.

Nice! I think I could actually like my 4.2 even more if the dealer service experience wasn't so bad. I still can't see myself giving up my 540 for a 4.2 full time. If the RS6 wasn't so overpriced, I'd consider it, but for that kind of coin 911 C4 all the way for me. My buddy with the S4 is thinking about doing the K04 but I told him not to spend his money like that...he dumped over $12K in his S4 already and miles are racking up fast. I think he should wait and see what the new S4 will be all about.

ahh the classical 540 vs. auto typeS.
if your stock and he's stock NO way. I KNOW hehe
but w/ headers, and a couple more stuff you might be able to hang until the big v8 reaches triple digits, after that u might as well move over so u don't get rammed in the rear, like how AC always tries to do to me when Im flying down 110+ in 4th gear. =D
