Non-Comptech headers for 2G CL?????
tried to install them the other day, but had to abort because the bolts on the cat were seized. Didn't have time to go to a shop and didnt have any other large amounts of free time. Dropped off at a shop yesterday. They had some problems with the rear header. Actually they had a lot of probs with the rear headers! The guy was like he's never gonna do headers on a CL-S again. Since a lot of guys have been able to DIY, i was wondering if there is a big difference b/w the 6sp and the auto. I know the engine mount is there and it seems to make it hard to get access to the headers. Any tips for putting them on 6sp. They are installed now, but my buddy picked up the car b/c I am out of town now. Total cost was 163US + 15CDN for bolts and nuts (they weren't shipped with any!) btw acura wanted 40CDN for factory nuts and bolts but they had to order them and I couldn't wait for them to come in. Mechanic charged about 200 to install. SO about 400CDN total installed, plus flowers+chocolate for the wife yesterday b/c I was a few hours late waiting for car (which I didn't get b/c the shop wasn't done so I borrowed my buddy's car for the next few days) and she had explicitly stated she had wanted to leave early afternoon about a million times and it was early evening before we left! I hope my butt dyno and ears hear a difference! All for less than half the cost of just buying comptechs!
Finally got to drive the car! Haven't reset the ECU, but it definitely feels stronger. It revs a little easier. There is a noticeable improvement in the upper RPM band, even 4th has decent acceleration up top! When I stab the gas and let go of the pedal, there is a different exhaust note than when stock. I also hear a hissing type of sound at lower RPM.I think it sounds like the intake! Exhaust is a bit louder, especially in vtec! I did notice that it's a little bit louder at about 2500RPM...i don't think it's resonance b/c it's not too loud or annoying, but it is definitely a little bit lounder in the couple of hundred RPM around 2500 and at 5000 as well, but it's nothing too loud. As a bonus, it's easier do drive in stop and go, b/c the car continues to move without bucking at low speeds when I am off of the gas pedal! Oh yes, they look great in the engine bay with the bronzed look!
I understand your frustration. We had spent close to 3.5hours on those stupid nuts, in the end I couldnt' be bothered anymore...not to mention i didn't have anymore free time! The shop had to cut them off! once the headers are on, it's well worth the money, even if you pay someone else to do it...

Gonna have to have them surgically removed.Get a heat torch and get those bolts hot!!!! Thats the only way i was able to get those bolts loose.
Heat Torch and some PB Rust Cutter!!!!!!
well my dc sports headers didn't fit on my 01 cl-p auto. the back header and the cat all lined up perfectly but the front one was off by a good couple inches. we checked with my mechanic to see if maybe we got them on wrong (rear on front etc) but everything seemed right. i even bent some of the frame back to get some clearance. anyone out there have dc sports on? any issues? they're just layin there on the floor in my garage breaking my heart...i wanna go fast damn it.
funkeetown,
it is possible that the manufacturer sent two rear bank primaries in error. there are subtle differences between the front and rear bank units in the stone and comptech headers. that could explain the gross fitment problem you have with the dc sports units.

so I took the car to a shop so they could heat up the bolts and get them off the cat. They did it, I took the car home got everything off. Got the new headers on
Then I went to tighten everything down and my wife (cool chick, helping me out) completely snapped one of the bolts that came with the headers that holds the front header to the A-pipe. So I'm like, "fuck, let me get under there to do the back header." I re-adjust the torque wrench to make sure it's at 40ft/lbs and went to tighten the first bolt and snapped it in half.
what the fuck?So due to intermittent business trips and float trips my car is still sitting on the stands waiting for the last two bolts
I just got mine in from them last night. 160 shipped!~!
They look good, welds are nice and straight, bolts and gaskets look cheap as expected. I am going to get teh OEM gaskets, use their rings and get some hd bolts.
These were little smaller than what i was expecting. Granded i have not actually seen the stock headers off the car, but I just was expecting them to be bigger. In particular, the collector. I measured last night and it was only 2" id. Seems small to me for the gains it is putting out.
Has anyone else measured. Can you confim that all are 2" vs. 2.5" on their ebay listings?

This is a very good thread people can come back to and talk about if they have questions about non-Comptech headers.

You people that don't search piss me off. It's like helping a buddy move that never helps you move or do anything else for that matter. Learn to use it. If you did, you'd find these.

So i won a set of these on ebay today. Was wondering if anyone has had any problems with them such as gasket leaks. Also has anyone had any check engine lights show up after installation? LONG LIVE THIS THREAD hehe

I am currently bidding on the XS Headers as we speak, so please don't bid if you're a member (lol). Has anyone from Cali installed these and done a smog check yet? I am really excited to get these on, but I don't want to go through the hassle of having to pull these fuckers off every time I have to get emissions tests. Any feedback will be greatly appreciated!!!!
