Last weekend I took my resonator out and did complete (cat back) 2.5" piping to my Comptech mufflers and that was a mistake. It sounds like complete crap. It sounds awful at ALL RPM's. Its so loud at low RPMs ( 1000-3000) that you cant hear any music, conversations, etc. Unfortunatly my 30 min drive to work is at hwy speeds so the drone is unbearable. At higher RPM's its very raspy.

If your thinking of taking yours out, dont.

But...my next project is to see how quiet I can make the Comptechs without reverting to stock. Ive got a 22" Magnaflow resonator that is going in this weekend, you think that would do the trick? The stock resonator/mid-muffler was pretty weak, im hoping that this one will tone it down quite a bit. I want to kill the drone, keep the look, and not get quiet tip inserts.

I may end up running the newer Magnaflow resonator along with another resonator or perhaps another mid-muffler.

Any thoughts on this?

 

get the longest bigger resonator you can find.

i'm running a full 2.5" catback with 2 - 22" resonators. and it's still fairly loud. but not unbearable.

 

You think it'll be quieter than the stock mid muffler with just 1?

 

22" is ok, but go bigger.

Quiet tip inserts! Make a HUGE difference (atleast on my setup like that)

What is wrong with the stock setup & CT mufflers? My setup is not overly loud & doesn't drone.

 

Been there done that....Resonator Removal....would not recommend it....totally sucks. Especially if you are boosted with no cat...raspy all the damn time. Sounded like I had two tin cans with bees in them all the time. Keep us posted on what you end up doing.

Nothing is wrong with it. I just dont want to be louder than it was. Hopefully it will be quieter when i get that resonator on. Anything is better than what I have now.

 

I'm getting a 2.25" b-pipe put in along with a 24" resonator going back to stock mufflers. We'll see how that sounds, I may end up putting a second one in.

why not just get your stocks chromed? i think the rear looks best with the stock tips anyways. they are designed to fit the way the bumper tapers.

 

yea i ran a 4" round 22" magnaflow resonator w/ the comptech b-pipe (2.5") to oem axlebacks, it droned a bit and was semi annoying, but nothing too bad. but with the larger one i'm confident it would be nice and quiet.

Once driven for a little bit and the carbon blackens them up you cant even tell they are in teh tip

Found a pic. Also found some info on painting them black so they are less visable. This may be an extra option.

 

I have a full exhaust...remember when they were just pipes? Seriously loud! But now with mufflers back on it's got a nice deep tone.

Most members will think it's loud and shouldn't be on the car.

My car was extremely loud with no muffs, most people thought it was too loud, but when I went to a car meet most of the people there loved it.
