I just called Discount Tire and they said that the Nitto nt 555 is not being made anymore. Is this true?

Oh man, I hope that's not true. If it is, I can't imagine Nitto wouldn't replace them with something equal to or superior to them. I've had the Nitto NT-450's and NT-555's and the 555's are truly superior. There is increased road feel however and straight line acceleration can be effected by degress of difference in the road, as they will instantly track the road, but turning ability is incredible, but I suppose I can't judge them to other tires of the same performance ratings. Nevertheless, I sure as hell hope Nitto replaces it with something better or doesn't discontinue it at all.

If Nitto comes out with new tires, I'm sure they will be better than the last. The 450s and 555 are a bit older designs. They are sticky like the Re-71s are sticky, they pickup sand and gravel, so they "feel" sticky. The newer tires are going more to a silica and "magic-carbon-mix". They are also desiring in better and better ways to keep the tread on the road. So, at the very worst, you will just get better Nittos.
As with the RE-71s, there is still a lot of stock drifting around. If you want them, I would expect you could get them.
(just my opinion)
