A Nice Thread about PortoType Racing headers with New PICS!

Read it here:

http://www.v6accord.com/forums/showt...0697#post80697

I have a beef with the fittment/clearance issue. Note how the coupling to Cat Conv is not right.

Any thoughts?

NB: I am sure that this issue would be addressedby Joe. Do NOT misunderstand me. I like those headers

they look good to me as long as they stay in place...
I think it would be good to heat wrap them a little cause they look like they get real close to the under body of the car and would transfer alot of heat...
I talked to a shaop that works on all motor cars like stangs, he said equal lenght are way better than unequal. he said we would get more power over the comptechs... he is a very reliable sorce..
so when do these headders go on sale? how much are they?

I don't see what you're talking about with the cat coupling. can you elaborate?

as far as these pics are concerned, based on the link you provided, they appear to be the earlier 1st version (a 6 into 1 design) rather than the 2nd version (a 6 into 2 into 1 design).

given that, your cat coupling issue may be resolved on the new design.

Tankmoneky:

All published pictures are for the same headers 6-2-1: There is no 6-1 design that I am aware of. Note in the pics how the 3 pipes merege into 2 very-short pipes and then into 1 large collector

This picture is from Prototype website:

Another:

Another one next to Comptech' and Acura's:

Finally, this is the picture that raises the fittment issues( note the hanger does not reach its place:

And Another one for the fittment issue:

again, based on the link you provided, the person (t-rd) that posted the pictures you linked to in your first post said:

Anyhow,..Luke was kind enough to send me the first prototyping pictures of the header. I still have all the photos on my computer. Here they go (note the 6-1 design):
anyway, the headers in the pictures you've posted are going to perform more like a 6-1 design than a 6-2-1 because the 3-1 collectors are so close to the 2-1 collector. granted, an ideal 6-1 design would have a 6-1 collector (all primaries terminate directly into 1 collector) but given the space constraints, that may not have been possible given the acura/honda engine bay clearances and the size of the cat inlet pipe.

a 6-2-1 design has both tuned primary and tuned intermediate sections, so the 3-1 collectors will typically be significantly farther from the 2-1 collector than they are in those photos (and the primary section will likely end up shorter to accomodate mounting in/under the engine bay).

So maybe this is not the final design. Looking forward for the final 6-2-1 design.

The secondary collectors are way too short to qualify for a 6-2-1 design,.. as opposed to Comptech's. There is clearly a huge difference there. I think it'll perform more like a 6-1 header, which gives more high end power. I think that's one of the reasons why it makes the car run extra rich. Hondas are rich by nature to avoid detonation, and the 6-1 (or something close to it) causes more imbalance with the stock ECU's fuel curve/tuning.

look good on the car, I'd sure like to see a dyno on a CL-S/TL-S

IMO, I think you're right about them performing like true 6-1s (at least as far as torque/hp goes).

I got more top-end power (HP) out of my 4-1 equal length headers on the 2-liter Bimmer. I had some expensive 4-2-1s and they lost about 4-5hp at 8K rpm, but there was more torque in the lower/midrange areas (it “felt” better and I didn’t have a tight ratio 6-speed).

I know from looking at the back of my CLS that it is running RICH at WOT...

IMO, it probably could have a bigger advantage for the 6-speed with its tighter ratios...

$0.02...

Those headers look AWESOME but also MASSIVE. I wonder how much they weigh. I wonder if they end up adding weight to the car overall.

As soon as we see some dynos, we will know if they work.

And the price of course.

Btw, what do you "wrap" headers with for heat insulation? How much would it cost? Where would you get it done?

it may be a little difficult to wrap teh headers in ceramic.

you can buy heat/ header wrap tape to do the job though. kinda looks like shit though imo.

Seems like they are ceramic. The comptech are TIG welded and polished... Ceramic???

The headers are stainless steel. Whether you're talking about Comptech or Prototype Racing, the production ones are made out of SS.
