Newbie Needs Advice

Am considering a mint 99 CL 3.0 Premium with 160,000 kms (in Canada you know...) for about $CAN13,000. Thats about $8800 for y'all.

The high mileage doesn't scare me as I had an 88 Legend with 325,000 km and have put more then 650,000 kms on two Jetta diesels.

With all the mileage, I have considered a Cessna or Piper but am really stuck on this CL (pretty scary for a devout diesel fan who was looking for a 97 PAssast TDI!)

Any advice?

Well, they sure don't make em' like the 88 Legends anymore...The 3.0 CL's have some tranny issues as well.. at 160K, make sure the timing belt is done, the engine is tuned and CV boots are done..

From: Anna,OH(home of the honda/acura motors)
I gotta agre with ruvz I had a friend with a 88 or 89 Legend(and that's what it was) we could drive pee out that poor thing and it kept on coming back for more.
in my opinion Honda/Acura motors will wear you out before it wear out
I've had 3 Accords
my first one 1986 LX-i(my family was orginal owners) which 210 thousand miles=about 340 thousand KMs (might i add it had been in 3 Deer accidents)
all we did was rebuild the tranny . we sold it to my dad's friend who drives it to work everyday and loves it
my second Accord was 88 Lx-i(we bought this guy used) it just about but not quite as good as my 1st accord we sold it at
180-190 thousand=about 305 thousand KM
The Accord I got now 1994 EX(my family bought new in 1994)
daily drive with 182 thousand miles on it= about
293 thousand KM

now about timing belt.. ruvz your correct at every 90-100 thousand mile=160 thousand km you should change timing belt(dad works for Honda so we have a service center do the "100 thousand mile checkup" they basically GO CLEAR THROUGH THE CAR) i'm on the 3rd timing belt on my 94(cause the orginal one i ran to about 90 or 100, then they put new one on then and about a month ago they put on a fresh timing belt.) If i rember right the for here in the USA to do the 100 thousand mile checkup it's 500-600 bucks(american) (but i;m not absolutely sure)

Years ago, I used to have a Civic Si.. it has about 140,000km on it.. funny enough, one day the timing belt snapped.. The car wouldn't start though I tried cranking it many times.. (Didn't know the belt was ripped)..

When my mechnic diagnosed it was a timing-belt issue, he told me that I probably bent the valves and need new ones (about $100 per valve, for 16 of them)..

By pure luck, when he opened the engine's top cover, none of the valves suffered any damage.... All I had to do was replace the belt...

Another common prob on FWD vehicle is the CV boots... Once they tear and dirt gets in the CV joint, you are looking at new axles... You gotta make sure those are in tact..
