New Transmission Installed

Well, my service advisor just called to let me know my new transmission is installed and my car is ready. I’ll see how this one goes. Hopefully, this one won’t give me problems. I’ll make sure to break it in very easily.

Good luck. I broke mine in easily too, for about 600 miles, but it's beginning to give me doubts again.

Several people on here and the TL forum, including myself, have had their trannies replaced under warranty. Seems to be defective from the factory, but we don't know any details yet, they just replace your tranny and you hope it doesn't happen again. Hopefully, we'll know more soon.

It's factory defective. I doubt many of us did anything to cause it to "break"! Yes, it is covered under warranty up to 50k miles. I had mine replaced at 15k miles.

So far my transmission feels very good. It now shifts much smoother, although I haven't really driven the car hard yet (still breaking in the transmission). Hopefully all stays well with the car.

Rod,

What makes you doubt the replaced transmission? Is it beginning to jerk or shift rough again???

It's beginning to shift hard on occasion, but it's starting to hunt for gears excessively again. Like yesterday, I was cruising at about 60 MPH on my way home from work and without me changing the amount of gas I was giving the car, the tranny started shifting between gears, it down shifted which caused the RPMs to rise and then upshifted very quickly since there was no reason for it to have downshifted in the first place. This is what started happening before I replaced my tranny the first time , but it would occur when I was cruising at about 40-45 MPH instead.

Mine just did that for the first time yesterday. I have been telling myself that it didn't really happen. I was driving between 40-45. What else should I look for?

I'm sure you'll know when it's time to go to your dealer. The only thing I can tell you is, wear your seatbelt just in case it decides to slip or give out at a bad time.

I'm scheduled to have my tranny replaced on Oct 13th. Only 12.5K on the odometer

Ah well, ponied up for the extended warranty so hopefully it'll come in useful.

Cheers,

Smeg

I'm having the exact same problems right now with my transmission because it just doesn't seem to be shifting properly at times. I'm taking it in to the dealer on Monday so we'll see what happens there.

ok, everyone here should file these issues so that a service bulletin can b issued and Acura will have no choice but to redesign the tranny...everyone wins, no??

Done! Hopefully enough people file with the NHTSA for something to actually be done, which I really doubt will happen.

I’m also breaking mine in very easily. I have 850 miles on the new tranny. At around 1,000 miles, I’ll start going WOT on occasion.

I believe they told me to give it a couple hundred miles, but I took it easy for about 1K.

I think if a transmission gave out while I was initiating a passing maneuver, causing someone to hit you and wreck you car, you could probably sue Acura since it seems there is a number of defective transmissions and should be some sort of test done on EVERYONE's transmission to determine if it is safe to drive.

My tranny went out after 12k, 9 mos after I bought the car. The local dealer here in Tampa has had the car since the 11th, and just called me to say that Acura is now back ordered 185 units. My car will be out 4 to 6 more weeks, IF I keep it...

After reading all these posts, there's no guarantee that the replacements trannyis reliable. That makes this car an official lemon by state law in Florida. But I might just leave it there and take the hit from Honda finance when I turn it in 30 months early.

I did however file a "motor vehicle defect report" with the State's Attorneys office in Tallahassee today to begin arbitration proceedings against Acura. This IS an engineering defect and someone is losing ALOT of sleep over this issue in Torrance California.

I might be interested in the 6 speed if it's released soon. But that's a mighty big if...I'm so bitter about Honda right now all I want to do is dump this POS and buy the 350Z in July.....

We must file all transmission problems with NHTSA as they are safety issues.

C.Z., keep us updated with your findings. Hopefully something gets done. If my tranny goes out again and it's a month wait for a new one, I'll definitely go with the lemon law for a refund or new car. Maybe, I'd be able to change for a blue 2002. But I don't think I'd want to get another CL-S, unless the tranny issue is resolved.

A guy named "Man" (pronounced "mahn") from acura corporate in Torrance,CA called me today. They began a case file on my problem--whatever the hell that means.

I suggest everyone deluge their office with similar complaints.

I always drive in Sportshift mode. Sometimes at WOT I will go from 2->3 at redline and it will jump or hesitate to go into 3. Is this a tranny problem? After reading all these tranny threads, I drove it in regular auto last night. For the first time in about a month. I would be going like 50 or 60 and it seems like it gets in a real high gear because my RPM's are only at like 1500. Is this a problem? What are most of you finding problems in sportshift or full auto?
