The new "Stone Headers"

First, let me say the following.

As you know, I got new headers fom " Stone Racing". I was expecting a new design, something like the one from Prototype Racing.

In fact, Today, when I opened the FedEx box, I found a new and improved Comptech design clone! I will explain when you see the pictures.

I was like ... I had to do some calls to find out why the design made was not what I expected. To make the story short, there is no way to make a cost effective copy of the prototype headers.... OBX would wipe out the floor as they say...

Now, back to the headers that I got. Do I like it... You bet! Is it better than OBX... for sure:

The Stone headers has:

1) Matched Ports to the headers.
2) No steped inner tubes.. i.e. inside the Primaries.
3) Polished!
4) Better fit (we have to see)
5) No missing welds... They look very good to me.

Is it on same level of Comptech.. This I cannot say because of the following:
1) Comptech gives you CA " Smoke legal" tag.. This one does not.
2) Comptech has 6-speed version...

So, Let us see some pictures .. Let me know if you like what you see:

Note: Matached Oval Ports:

Note: The new Matched Port design:

Another View of the "Balloon" Pipe:

Finally... I am done!

They look pretty good I guess.
Internal grinding could be better, but definitely better then OBX.
How much were they again ???

What’s with the “balloon” thing ???

I see that they STILL won’t fit the 6-Speed.

Shawn and Scrib:

I guess the inner tubes are not polished... It seems that they used a grinding stone only to smooth the edges.. I checked those headers are "thick"

As for the price, I need to work out a group deal for you guys.. I do not expect them to be anywhere near the Comptechs.. Once I do a dyno and see if there is or there is no resonance sound then I can press for a better deal...

If you look at that picture you see that the left and right pipe look like a "ballooned pipe end" to make them a bit bigger to fit straight into the oval ports.

First Gen, and 6-speed Version: I need to find out if there is possibility to make those versions.

The installation and dyno is sometimes next week. I need to book an appointment. In addition, I need to do a full 45k miles.

I THINK WE HAVE A WINNER

Any idea on weight (as compared to stock and Comptech)? Somewhere in the back of my brain I remember someone saying that the Comptech SS headers are significantly lighter then the OEM headers.

These look like a better Comptech knock-off then the OBX.

Internal grinding is not great.... I looked at other headers make amd they do "PAINT or Coat" the inside to hide the roughness. Other designs they use custom forged collectors which is a good idea but cost a lot to mass make.

The welds from outside are excllent!

hmmm, u think its possible to grind the headers (internally) ourselves, or should we have a machine shop do it?

Just curious, any one have predictions on a possible price for the PR headers IF they come out? Near Comptech?

The OEM are heavy cause the iron cast... Solid Steel.... not SS.

According to my trusted digital bathroom scale: the weight is 17 lbs.

Call me crazy but then don't look any different than the OBXs I have and I'm sure some of the CTs that others have. Then again pictures don't tell all the story.

Well I guess they look a little better where the header meets the engine.

I would love to have those for only one reason.. to get ride of the annoying resonance sound of the OBX....

BTW, I said, those are "Comptech Design Clone"

I hope these turn out to be flat and square, round, flush, and plumb in all the right places. Oh, and affordable. Nashua...get the earliest install and dyno date possible. Good on you. I'll have to wait until a few early purchasers burn 'em in and report back. They look pretty well made. Siezeya.

im really glad that other companies are starting to make headers for the v6 honda engines....these do look slightly better than OBX, and again, solidifies the case that Comptech is overcharging by quite a bit for their headers.

in the end though, ive had my OBX headers for about 4 months now and i couldnt be happier with them, they definately added the power gain i expected, they are holding together VERY WELL, even in road-salt infested wisconsin, they look and sound and perform great.

for 350 bucks, the OBX headers are by far the best and most cost effective mod for our cars, hands down!!!!!

Nashua,

I was messing with you but thanks! Glad to see more headers coming out for our cars and thanks for being at the forefront and getting us this information!

Thanks for all the pics, etc. One question, what did they supply for installing them? Gaskets, etc.?

Included with the kit:

6-Bolts, 6-self-locking nuts.
3 metal O-rings
2 Gaskets (look to me very similar to OBX's)

I noted also that mating surface to the engine block is really smooth...

I was considering buying OBX headers very soon, but now it looks like I have to be patient to see how much these are first. Get to that dyno quick, please, and let's hear some group buy prices.

The shipping info from the first thread Nashua started had them being shipped from Durham, NC. OBX racing is also from that area? both 919 area code.

coincidence?

These look almost exactly the same as my OBX. The welds, insides, etc.

I have had the OBX through a northern CT winter, and no problems whatsoever other than a slight resonance sound

No... it's sound that occurs ONLY around 2600-2800 rpm.. It is not that loud at all if the Stereo is ON you will not hear it.... I noted that when the car warms up a... I cannot hear it either... It is like a Brrrr...and then nothing... Some like that sound...

I will let you hear it when we meet..

Cool. I am not that worried about it since people on the list seem to love them anyhow. I think this was the resonance that someone said went away if you used the stock Acura gaskets? Anyhow, time to fight the snow and go to work. Hopefully by now people have learned to drive in this slushy cr@p...doubt it.

I'd like to mention a couple of point RE: the resonance i had to issues with resonance in my car both one of which is resloved...both my front and rear motor mounts were torn ,destoyed is more like it. these are liquid filled vaccum acctuated, and i was experiencing some low RPM /idle res that is now gone with new mounts, but i had one other issue thta i think was related to the motor mount ,and that was, the hanger that was to suspend the header down pipe, that part is on order and was like 13.** $$$ but being covered under warranty,i think it failed because the bad motor mount allowd the engine to flex too much putting strain on this hanger..... from the drivers side front ,the car will need to be lifted slightly you can see the hanger bring a flash light and make sure it is in tact...if it breaks like mine did the hanger on the headers down pipe will make metal to metal contact and cause a terrible resonance at certain RPM's

so what should we be looking for if we get the headers?? Any aftermarket part(s)?
