new SL500
i saw a few on the road the other day... pretty much one of the sickest looking stock rides i've ever seen. or is it just me?
sorry, i just had to mention this. guess the CL500 ain't my dream car no more.

i'd say there isnt much difference between the CL and SL anymore, just the SL is faster of course because it is the flagship sportscar and it doesnt have the back seat. as long as the CL 600 and SL 500 are compared its almost even IMO leaning toward the CL cause of the V12. But SL600 ownz everybody.

The V12 will be back. They first introduce the 500, then 600 and 55. Look at the S and CL (mercedes CL that is).

Correction for you guys....
The New SL 55 //AMG is going to have 500Hp.... the reason?
The New E 55 AMG turned out to be faster then the SL because of weight differences so they bumped up the SL 55 to 500Hp... oh baby!!!!
Cant wait to see the revised numbers on that bad boy...
I will post a link to the revised info as soon as i can find it again...

'Big Daddy Diggler'
Mercedes is superchargine all of there new engines coming out. Imagine the possibilities of putting a smaller pulley on one of them bad boys. The new v 12 in the s class will be a twin turbo v 12 to compete wit the 6.0 litre bimmer and the new S8. Mercedes will have the best engines in the world soon. The E55 will have 4 hundred and change horses out of a blown 5.5 litre 8 and will blow the doors off the M3 and the M5. The SL will be by itself as the ultimate luxo sports car. But, from what i am hearing from a friend at the bimmer dealer is that BMW is going to be making the next m3 a v8 while the rest of the line up will be 6's. And, the M5 will be either a v 10 that bmw has been working on for years or use a modified version of the companies flagship 12 cylinder beast from the 760il.

drool!
man, haha, i just had to voice my opinion after i saw the car... didn't know i'd get so many replies. haha
anyway, with all this talk about fighting back and retaliations among BMW, Audi, and Benz... poppin in BIG 8 cylinders in M3's and huge 12's in tiny coupes and shit...
... meanwhile Honda's jacking off trying to figure out a way to pump out an extra 15 horses out of the 2.0liter to differentiate it between a baseline and Type-R.
i kno Honda's more technology oriented, but man, I think its time that the RL deserves an 8.... NSX is cool with the high-revving 6cyls and all, but the RL is supposed to be the apex in luxury among Honda's production line...

They are pretty close base vs. base models. And pretty close on the high end too. Unless you want a boxster.
i.e.
SL500 vs 911 porsche.
SL55 vs 911 turbo.
Do they still make the SL320? I only hear about the SL500 since the redesign?
----
I'm with ya though, I'd take a 911 turbo for sure

Definately an awesome car. My friends uncle has the last generation SL600. Drving down the LIE you wouldn't belive how much attention it gets. A trucker offered to trade his rig straight up for it.
This new gen looks 10x better however.

The base 911 is faster than the SL500 and quite a bit cheaper. The Turbo is much faster than the SL55. And I don't mean just straight line. And the Posches aren't fat pigs with automatic only. Much more fun to drive.

I thought the base 911 was still $70K? (msrp)
WOW!
I just went and looked at Mercedes site
ya! no kidding. They raised the price a bit on the new SL.
$86,665 closer to 90+k realistically...
You could buy a SL500 2 years ago in the 70's of course you could buy a SL320 then too.... UGH
geeze. How much is the AMG SL55 now?

I priced out a 911 w/ 10k in options. I could easily do without the Leather interior and save another $3700...

yes, I love the look of the new SL, but I will really miss the previous gen. SL's. They had classy style that still looks great after 10 years. It will take some time for me to accept this new car as an "SL." My neighbor has a 2002 SL500 Silver Arrow collectors edition. WOW is that a beautiful car. For those of you who don't know what the silver arrow is; it's M-B's way of saying farewell to this classic car. The Silver arrow is a spruced up previous gen. SL. Too bad they are all sold out, but i guess I can just stare at my neighbors.

I would rather have the coupe though. A Targa would be a good compromise with it's retractable Glass roof....cheaper than the cabrio...
