New Shocks

I am looking to get the Comptech springs and sways in April. Should I get new shocks too? If so, why and which ones should I get?

Thanks!

One reason to get shocks w/ springs are because you only have to pay for labor once.

That's true, that's why I'm doing springs and sways at the same time. But why would I need new shocks? Are the factory shocks generally not that good? I only have 6700 miles on the car.

Typically, factory shocks are tuned for comfort (low compression damping), can just deal with the spring rate/unsprung mass of the stock wheels/tires, and aren't built for the abuse of aggressive driving. With higher-rate lowering springs, the car will feel bouncy (not enough rebound damping). With typical aftermarket 18" or 19" wheels (heavier, except for really expensive race-oriented ones), suspension actuation becomes less controlled and more dictated by the inertia effects of the increased unsprung mass. And aggressive driving will blow the lightly-built shocks faster.

anytime you put higher rate springs in your car...it creates additional load on your factory struts. It won't happen right away, but it will wear out your fatory struts at an increased rate. I actually ordered some Koni adjustables from Comptech...Konis for CL-S are only available from Comptech...bastards..charge me an arm and a leg...$160 a strut!

That sure is a lot of $$$ for one shock/strut! What other alternatives are out there? I want to ensure that I have a stable setup without losing too much driving comfort.
