haven't really tested the brakes yet cuz im trying to break em in nice and slow...initially, tho, they're a lil more grippy than the upgraded TLS pads

here r the rotors...

Looks GREAT man.

What’s the outside diameter of those things?
I was thinking about getting in on the “group buy”, but I’m pretty sure they wouldn’t fit inside of my 16” TL rims that my snows are mounted on.

all 4 rotors cost about $430, which includes shipping ($190 for the fronts, $240 for the rears)

Sorry, but I need a bit more confirmation then THAT before I make a 1,400-dollar purchase.
Maybe I’ll bring along one of my TL rims for a “test fit” next time we get together.

Shawn S

PS…. What do you mean backwards? Are the left & right front swapped ?

I have read in other posts and places that some of the aftermarket rotors are simply USDM rotors with slots and holes drilled in them. ture or not? I had a 95' accord with a bunch of bolt-ons, ZR rubber, and the four wheel power stop rotors and axis metal master pads.

while there was the noticable increase in the braking feel desired, I still warpped the crap out of the front rotors about every ten months. I will be honest though and tell you that I was living in Birmingham, AL and would RACE to school every day hitting 100 MPH and hitting the brakes down to 60MPH repeatedly running up and down I65.

I enjoyed my power stop rotors as I was warping stock accord rotors every three two to three months.

However, I guess my question is do you know of or have any solid evidence that these rotors are made of a higher grade steel/ore. how much more heat disapation does sloting a stock diameter rotor offer. Is the heat soak capacity of the rotors you have higher than the capacity of the stock rotors. Most importantly, I am sure you have read the thread about warped stock rotors currently on the car talk board, do you think these rotors will not warp under very normal to infrequent sporty driving conditions on my/your CLS?

P.S. I think your rotors may be backwars as well. Althogh they look great.

for what its worth,

Jim

Shawn S,
what are you refering to when you say a $1400 dollar purchase. Scooter said all four rotors only cost $430?

after a couple convo's with people, the pattern direction doesn't matter...the ability for heat to dissipate is the same either way

also wanted to thank the service crew once again at PAA for doing such a wonderful job with my service visit and follow-up convo's with Pete and Jens this afternoon on a couple questions...guys, keep up the superb work u do always

Scooter just got ROTORS.
There’s a group buy going on right now for ROTORS, CALIPERS, Pads & STN STL Brake Lines that’s like 1,400 bucks.

You know after a few hours of scratching my head i found a catalog from Brembo that shows the rotor slots/holes going in both directions .I cannot imagine this making any difference and when I installed it looked a bit weird too but the boxes were marked as to which way they were supposed to be mounted so that is what I went with .Jens

Shawn S,

Why do you want to put new calipers on a stock diameter rotor?

thanks,

What made you decide to go with the drilled & slotted over the just slotted? Most everything I've read about the x-drilled says not to do it--like they introduce metal fatigue points in the rotors and could cause "catastrophic" brake failure during high-speed braking.. But primarily that they don't really contribute to brake cooling/gas dispersion. Because that's the main reason for slotting--to get the hot gases away from the brake surface, essentially by wiping them away via the slots.

Tanks.

well if it's a 4-piston caliper vs. a 2-piston stock caliper, then the idea is to get a more even area of the pad to rest on the rotor during braking...this also helps provide more even wear across the pad itself and supposedly gives better braking performance

altho i've heard both sides of the argument bout the cross-drills, i am of the opinion that if u drill correctly into a rotor by following the webbing pattern of the rotor itself, there is no compromise in the integrity of the rotor...i'm not planning on high speed braking since i'm not racing the car at 100+ for any length of time

and if nothing else, the cd's r jus fo decorashion, that's all

Shawn S,

I was not aware someone was making a 4-piston caliper for our stock diameter rotors. Wouldn't you still have similar problems with warping even with a 4-piston caliper on a rotor of the same diminsions as stock. Exceeding heat soak capacity of given volume of alloy. another question, At $1400 for rotors pads and calipers why wouldnt you just get the Rotora brake kit.

thanks for your time,

Jim

Scooter,

Another thing I just though of.
You had better check your SPARE to see if it still fits. Ours is a 16” steel wheel…NO ???

The CL has 1 piston calipers stock, the Legend has a 2 piston version and for 4 pistons, we need to upgrade to Brembos or the Rotoras. I have read the argument many times for x-drilled v. slotted v. dimpled v. every combination of the former. I have had x-drills on my cars for the past 10 years. I hear they can crack...but if you listen to who tells you these things, its usually the dumbasses that track their car when the brakes specifically say not for track use!! The Brembos have been tracked tested...they never cracked, although they do eat up the rotor with the track only pads.
Just a thought but, I bet its not so much the x-drilling as the fact that the stock calipers are only 1-piston which would mean that only one point of the pad is being pushed against the rotor v. 2 piston v. 4 piston v. x-pistons.
