Hello everyone,

So I finally received my 18" gunmetal enkei fd-05 and new tires Wednesday. Had them on the car for two days and was on my way back up to get the wheels re torqued, waiting at a stop for the guy In front of me to turn. Then I got blasted by a grand am gt doing atleast 45 mph on a 35 mph street. She hit me so hard I bumped the car in front of me, and it actually broke my seat back. I hit my head on the wheel and have severe neck and back pain. I couldn't beleive it happened so soon after the wheels were put on. I'll post pics once I get the chance.

Yeah I hope I can do well from it. I just can't beleive it happened that soon after putting wheels on it. I think my car may be totaled. She went up under my car, and my exhaust is pushed into my tires, Trunk is out of shape, whole back half of my car is trashed! Plus some front end damage as well, since I hit the Cadillac in front of me.

WTF! That really sucks and you just got your car not long ago. Hope you are okay physically. Must be open season on CLs or maybe folks are just more stressed and acting/driving more erratically.

Another total loss? We have to get down to the bottom of this. Why are all these CL's getting totaled?

I think the CL is invisible to other drivers. All CL owners watch out no one can see you.

The rear ended accidents are one thing but I would blame a lot of it on inexperienced drivers. CL's are at least a 6 year old car at this point and being a relatively undesirable coupe, have depreciated into the market of younger buyers who have less experience on the road.

NECESSARY DISCLAIMER

I am in no way disrespecting the CL when I say it is an undesirable coupe. I love my CL but coupes depreciate poorly b/c most people want 4 doors. Along with that, between the ages of 17 and 24, I was probably one of the most idiotic drivers out there. Somewhere in my mid 20's I started to think ahead about potential situations I may be getting into while driving and intentionally avoided situations that were dangerous.

I definitely understand where you are coming from. I am 21 years old. i know a lot of perople in my age group drive like total idiots. I consider myself a responsible driver. The crazy thing is, the lady who rear ended me is about 35. I dont really know how she managed to hit my at full speed, considering there is always someone stopped at that spot waiting to turn. So i would say that you are correct about the 17-24 being the most idiotic, but i have noticed that the two times ive been rear ended has been by people over that age group. I think its safe to say that there are idiotic/unsafe drivers in every age group.

so ya think its fixable? as you can see in the pic, she went under my car. im concerned that maybe the chasis is out of spec, and may not be fixable..

I'm not blaming it entirely on irresponsible driving or saying that all drivers between 17-24 are idiotic (I can only speak for myself there). I think it's about experience than anything else. The more experience you have on the road, the more things you will see and the more you will learn from what you saw. I know that at this point, I am much more capable of performing an emergency maneuver than I was 10 years ago (250,000-300,000 miles ago). I chalk that up to more experience behind the wheel not to the fact that I'm more mature than I was then. In fact many of my closest friends would say my maturity level hasn't changed since I was 17

You can be an incredibly responsible 17 year old driver and still end up in a bad situation because you lacked the experience to read the situation and react correctly.

Getting rear ended is probably 99.9% of the time not your fault (I seriously doubt there was much you could do to avoid what happened). At this point in my life if I ever get rear ended again, I'm going to want to see cell phone records to find out if the person was on the phone or texting when they hit me.

You are exactly right! I DO beleive that lady that hit me was on her phone. I only say this because When i helped her out of her car, she had her phone in her hand.

That'll buff right out

Sorry, it had to be said, but in all seriousness, that is not a write off... not nearly. unless the estimator can't find any of the parts and prices it all at Acura's prices.

well like i was saying. i know the actual visable damage isnt much, its just that she hit me pretty hard. and the underbody of my car appears to be damage. if the chasis is tweaked, can they pull it back out?

When you said she was under you, I was expecting your car to be on top of her hood or something. Doesn't look too bad to me

damn that sucks to hear, at least you made it out okay though

on a side note...(based off your situation)...say you're stopped somewhere, and there's a car in front of you. All of a sudden, you see some car flying at you from behind, and you have left enough room in front of you and the car in front of you to quickly drive out of the position in which you are currently in (to avoid getting hit by the car), knowing that by doing this, the car in front of you will probably get it. Would you be at fault here for anything? I realize it's a pretty dickheaded move...but just wondering.

I wouldn't say so. Who's to say the guy in front of you wouldn't try the same thing, after you do it?

In a way that would kind of be like if some guy threw a punch at you, you ducked, and he hit the guy standing behind you. You getting out of the way doesn't mean the other guy getting hit is your fault. I dunno, that's how I see it

well lets hope the frame is ok. the spare tire well might need to get banged out, but the body shop will know what to do with it.

at least you werent lowered...yet. they would have hit your trunk instead, a rare example of not being lowered saved you lol

haah yeah definitely. A lot more damage to be had if i was lowered. So i finally got ahold of her insurance company today and dropped my car off at the body shop. They were unable to give me any sort of estimate on the damage, but they did say they think they can fix it. Just in case they total it, i threw my stock wheels back on.
