New Problem - Wild Rpms on cold startup ...

This morning when I started the car ( cold...outside temp about 25 degrees) it started OK and then immeditaley the Rpms started to go on a rollercoaster ride.....up and down up and down up and down ....from about 700 rpms to about 2700 rpms . It keeps doing this until until the engine is warm ( temp. needle almost halfway ) Then it stops fluctuating wildly and settles into its normal idle rpms. HELP .

Check out your IAC valve. Do a search and you should find several helpful threads about it.

Check your idle air valve. More than likely is... it could be sticking until it warms up. You can take it apart and clean it out with carb cleaner. But if you don't know what your doing I wouldn't suggest it.

My 2nd guess would be your TPS (TPI). You can test it with a volt meter however I don't know the specifications on it I don't have a manual handy. But just check the voltage at idle and see if it's erratic.

Both of those guys hit the nail on the head. It's gotta be one of those things.

Nothing major.

Shouldn't be unless its the TPS and then the ECU is reading the voltage from the TPS. Either way its a simple clean or replacement job.
