New PB 1/4 time...

ran at the track today cause the weather finally cooled down, 67 deg during my runs. my previous personal best was a 14.27.

my first run of the day was a 14.29 off my first ever 2.1 60', i experimented with tb'ing after that and it wasnt too pretty, high 2.3 60's, then i just did my usual launch and...

2.161--new pb
6.045
9.192@77.71
11.921
14.211@98.68--new pb

with some cooler temps i can imagine my car running 14.1, maybe just maybe a 14.0, but i dont see my 60's getting any better than that, i feel that the uni-chip isnt really helping me that much, i cant get it custome tuned and i havent had any luck with any of the maps they sent me, so with a tuned chip i think 13.9 is in the reach for some of you guys

Very nice, Darrin. Sorry I didn't show up. Chris didn't want to go, and I didn't feel like making the trip by myself.

Damn you auto's and you good 60's. With that 60' I'd be in the 13's

Awesome 60' time man! There are a few of use getting very close to 13's. It's such a tease to be right there. I may have a solution for the 6-speed 60' times in the works.

Nice times Darrin...!!

There aren't any UniChip tuners anywhere near you ? I'm going to have to drive 2+ hours to have mine tuned but I think it'll be worth it..

Nice times Darrin.

I haven't had the chance to run in sub 80 degree weather yet since UniChip and pulleys have been installed.

I'll have a chance to this weekend, it is supposed to be around 65-70, but with close to 80% humidity

Also, try unplugging the chip and see what you run. Seems like that'd be the easiest way to tell.

i'll give it a try steve, but i ran 14.27 with just intake and headers last year, so it seems like the chip might be doing me a little but not 100% potential as if it was custome tuned, i need to drive across the state like 3.5 hrs for a custome tune, i might just go with the greddy e-man

I also ran 14.2 with I/H/Tires as well. But my best trap speed of 98.2 is way off of my 99.9 now.

It takes alot to start dropping off the tenths.

I believe a rough estimation is the following:

Above 95 MPH (trap speed) It takes 10 whp to drop 1/10th off the ET. Adding the pulley, chip, and exhaust probably got you 15-20 whp (at most). If I remember it was quite cold when you ran 14.2 with your I/H setup.

i was comparing your 14.2 vs mine, very interesting to see the 6 spd vs the auto...

heres yours

RT........... .603
60'.......... 2.287
1/8 ET..... 9.377
1/8 MPH... 80.55
1/4 ET...... 14.293
1/4 MPH.... 98.78

mine:

2.161
6.045
9.192@77.71
11.921
14.211@98.68

whats weird is that i am 2 tenths quicker @ the 1/8th but you are 3mph quicker at the 1/8th, then by then end of the 1/4 you are still trappig slightly higher but about a tenth behind, i think this goes to show how hard 3rd gear on the auto pulls w/ headers

i believe it was around 55 deg on that 14.2 run last year, i just want to hit 13's with this car, its gonna be very hard but i'll try

I can't believe torque braking doesn't work for you. I've never tried a street start at the track.

I think a 2500 rpm torque brake plus drag radials would net a 13 second run. If I go any higher than 2000 rpm I get gobs of wheel hop.

Well you run a better 1/8th because of your 60', no doubt. I'm giving up a tenth right off the bat, but with the shorter tires and more agressive gearing I get into 3rd before the 1/8th mile, whereas you are still in 2nd. My shift into 4th comes just a touch before the end, so that costs me about a tenth. If we had the same RT I would basically be playing catch-up right until the end where we'd pass the traps at nearly the same speed.

edit: maybe I'm wrong, where do u shift into 3rd? And do you drop below 5k at any point during the run?

well when i tb'ed i just mashed it right after i let off and really didnt try to ease into it, i went 2.16 from an idle, i dont really go from a street start, i have my left foot on the brake and my right on the gas till the last yellow goes i start, ever since they changed to .000 lights instead of a .500 i could swear that the light moves quicker, i have gone .500 on the old tree twice, best i did today was a .009

how are people hitting such a low time. I have headers, intake, and 75 shot of nitrous and my best is a 14.032 w/ 2.2 60ft. Maybe my car was made on a monday? What ever i do, the car cant get out of 14.7 w/o nitrous, even with headers and intake. How is my car not responding to mods?

Don't worry Motion i'm in the same boat. Just went to the track yesterday and I still can't break a 14.8. I get alot of wheel hop whether I ease into the the throttle or brake torque it. Weather was a nice cool 57 degrees. The weird thing is before summer about same temps I also ran 14.8 but at a trap of 96mph and a 60ft of 2.3. Now I ran again a 14.8, but with a 2.2 60ft and a trap of 94 mph. How can I get the same 1/4 times with a better 60ft and a lower trap? The only thing different to the car is I have the Unichip now

Your trap is very low for having intake and headers Louie. You should be around 98 MPH. What is the altitude of the track?

I think it depends. I've gone to the track with Bulldog and we have almost the exact setup (he has AEM or Injen intake and Stone headers whereas I have CT and OBX headers). He's gone a PB of 14.2 at 97-98 mph and I've only done a best of 14.6 @96, which is what some other cats here have gotten. Hopefully I can go tomorrow and can get some decent times (should be low humidity and in the 50-60 range at night). My biggest problem is my 60'. I've only run about 10 times but have never gotten better than a 2.38 60'! I TB (although only twice), mash from jump. I'll try easing it if I go tomorrow. Gotta clean the icebox filter tonight though!

Oh and Darrin, great times! Seems like we have a lot of consistency these days out of a lot of peeps here.

guess I don't live my life a quarter mile at a time! Stock I trapped 92-93, plus 96 with h/i wouldn't constitute a bad actuator. I admit I suxor at teh launch.

I was on stockers when I ran the 14.6 and it was no warmer than 45 degrees. Last time I went I ran three consistent 14.8s @95mph with relatively new Kumho 712s on a relatively warm day (75-85 degrees). My icebox at the time had some 10k miles I think without having been cleaned (a little over a year).

Only reason I might go tomorrow is because the weather should be good (60-70 in the day, probably 50-60 at night with 60ish% humidity), tires should be good (about 8k miles...well one of the rear tires has 500 miles), and the icebox should be clean. I'm gonna take out the spare and other junk so hopefully that helps too. I usually only drive the car as is.

I always have an excuse!

I'm not sure about the altitude. It's just over the border into wis. I also have a lot less power than everyone else and my car is a pig. I dyno'd at 215hp and 189tq and my car with me in it weighs 3785lb's(i'm 165lbs). So I know why I get bad times compared with other people that have the same mods. I don't get how I can trap at 96mph w/60ft of 2.3 and trap at 94mph w/60ft of 2.2 and have the same 1/4 mile times of 14.8?
