New Navi disc messed up my system

Ok ... Received new 2.11c navi disc on March 7th and by March 10th, my display started doing weird shit. Put in an address, hit OK, and drive for awhile. Tired of the voice, turn off display and go back to the clock. Wait about 5 minutes and pieces of the directional display starts returning. Get the street address at the top, or the graphic (indicating a turn coming up) on the left ... all with the clock and star-filled background.

Call Alpine who says to call Acura Customer Care who says call the dealer. Dealer says "your control unit just went bad" and they're over $1,000 to replace. I ask "can you install my old navi disc?" They say "no can do ... it won't work ... you CAN'T go back."

I'm so pissed right now. 75,000 miles on the car with nary a problem (for the Navi) then get the new disc and the control unit goes bad ...

Don't what I'm gonna do now but I am not buying a new control unit.

Don't you have a warranty?

Actually I do have the extended warranty. But the dealer who sold it to me will refund the entire amount (~$1,100) if I don't use it by 100,000 miles. That's about one more year. So if I use the warranty on the Navi, I'll lose what I save.

if i were you, i would let the warranty cover it anyways. if it will be 1k to fix, then you will take advantage of your warranty to its near fullest. and if anything else goes screwy, you will still be covered and the warranty will pay for itself. if you decide to fix it, do it under the warranty.

I installed 2.11b four or so months ago (the version they sent out back in November before Acura stopped selling the upgrade until they issued 2.11c and sent patch discs those of us who bought 2.11b). I haven't installed the patch disc (which would take me to 2.11c) yet because I haven't had the problems the patch is supposed to fix so I'm thinking why mess up a good thing.

I noticed the problem you're talking about--it happens if I'm in the middle of a route and then just press set up and then turn off the display which is what it sounds like you did. If I decide to get out of a route and go back to the clock but do that by pressing the menu button instead and letting the screen first go back to the options to put in a new address/place and then press setup from there and turn off the display, the route image stays gone and the clock display is fine without the route peeking through. This makes me think that maybe there really isn't anything wrong with the control unit and it's just a software problem which was annoying to me at first, but now seems pretty easy to avoid.

Please let us know if it works when you try it.

I noticed this problem after Acura announced they would be sending us a patch and doing a 2.11c version to fix other things, I was going to send them an e-mail to tell them about this problem and that they should fix that too in the patch but I didn't get a chance to send them an e-mail about it.

nav update disc

I tried to install the software update to 211b but the system won't accept it. Says the disk is unformatted and can't be read. It says to consult your dealer. Anybody else have this problem? The system was working fine and I never noticed the problems that the update was susposed to fix. I hope this doesn't screw things up or cost money.

Assuming your navi and radio are stock, why should it be YOUR warranty to fix their glitch? Argue that point to them! You did what they wanted - installed their update. The update fcuked up your system, not something on your end. Are they passing the buck to you for their screw up?!

I'm confused, shouldn't anything to do with the Navi be under warranty, unless you abuse it? Do you have to buy all upgrades, patches or are they free??
What did the 'upgrades' offer, more cities?
