What tires are you running? I just hit my record of 467 miles and could have gone 500. I put in 14.3 gals for 32mpg. I was trying to see what mileage I could get. On the stock Michelins I've averaged 33.1mpg. I'm now on Kumho 235/45 ASX.

If you have a Costco or Sam's Club card, use them. I go to the Costco in Beltsville
and pay about .23 to .27 cent cheaper for premium there than the other stations. If I get there after it closes the stations in Laurel are the next cheapest.

Premium at Costco's on Monday was 2.20

I'm starting to feel like the invisible man in this thread. How about you Shawn?

Lesson for today class. Miles driven divided by gallons used equals Miles per Gallon or MPG. IMO - Comparing MPG is a better gauge than miles per tank.

BTW MisterMehoff - Fill Up = 13.9 gallons is not true in all cases and conditions. I wish Acura was that consistent and accurate with their parts quality and build.

I used to get 270-290 for usual city & hwy driving.
After using a injector cleaner every fill-up, spark plug replacement, intake manifold cleaning, I now get around 330-360 and close to 400 on hwy. Oh, btw; reseting ECU never hurts.

the best i've ever done was a little over 35mpg (>99% highway). i can't break 30mpg with 99% highway driving anymore. the only reason i can come up with is tires. i got great milage when i was on the oem tires and not since i switched to 18" wheels with bridgestone re750s in the 235/40/18 size.

I used to get ~330 a tank when I first got my car. Then, when i was in NYC i was down to about 220 miles per tank. Over the course of the last 9months (when I moved back to Chicago) i am now getting about 360-390 a tank. Lately more towards the 390 side. That is frickin awsome!!! My mileage seems to be getting better and better as rack up the miles. I should be hitting 60k in about a week !
Now, what if i switch to Royal Purple? do you think i can cross the 400 miles pert tank mark consistently?

btw, i drive more on the aggressive side

i use 13.9 gallons due to the fact that that is when my gas light comes on and i reset the trip and fill up.

Damn you guys suck.....I do all almost 95% or more city driving and I get about 16-18MPG...of course I have a heavy foot but still Its not like Im full throttle all the time. I tried for a week to ease up on the acceleration and got about 19-20 mpg. If im on the highway taking a trip I will see about 25-28 Mpg.

try 10K in just over 3months , i'm due a 60K inspection in 2000miles, it only felt like yesterday i got the 45K inspection...

As for the new tires i got 4 Ventus HRII H405, i've probably around 1000miles on them...so far so good, lets see how well they hold up after 25K driven on them

I bought my car back in Sept 2003 with 39K miles. I'm currently at ~80K miles. talk about a lot of driving. So, not even 1.5 years that I've had the car, and I've put about 40K miles on it. So, I'm averaging about 26K miles so far.

I fill up my gas every week.... drive about 300 ~ 350 miles depending on how I drive that week. This past weekend, I filled up 14.4 gallons and got 335 miles out of it and thought that was pretty good... IMHO I don't know how you guys are getting anything above 380 or even 400 with CLS... may be it's CL (don't know if that'll make much of difference).. unless you are going straight at set speed for long time.. don't think getting 400+ miles on our car is possible..

I tried pumping premieum hoping for better gas mileage but it doesn't help... worst i got out of my car was 280 miles for 14 gallons and that was from putting up with 6 days of traffic everywhere I went.... With the kind of performance we get out of this car, I'm more than pleased with the gas mileage.. Drove Accord (4 cylinders, special edition) for road trip.. and it gets about 450 miles full tank easily.. but just doesn't have the power that i'm so used to with my CLS... just wish gas comes down a bit

...Thats what I get... but I drive about 90% city, 10% highway

i think you guys are greatly underestimating the effects of your type of driving (highway/city)... do you realize that the difference between highway and city mpg is more than 30% ?? That means that if one week, you drove allmost all city, and the next week, you drove almost all highway, your miles per tank would be differente by more than 100 miles

To the orginal poster.... that means that you're approximately 2mpg increase could have been caused by just a 20% increase in the amount of your highway driving. I'm sure that cleaning your intake may have had a substantial effect on your mpg, but you would need a lot more data than you have in order to make any valid conclusions

the OCD way to do it ...

I track this way more than I should. I can tell you any average or best of since I've had the car. All in excel with conditional formatting and formulas and what not.

Here's what I've found.

Avg MPG - 23.049
Avg MPT - 362.66
Avg Fillup - 15.715
Avg after light - 59.32 miles

Best MPG - 25.69 (Worst MPG - 20.17)
Best MPT - 424.70 (Worst MPT - 297.7)
Best Fillup - 16.766
Best after light - 76.3 miles

For those who don't know, our car has a 17.2 gallon tank which includes a 3 gallon reserve (when the light comes on).

Personally, I always go as far as I can before filling up. Maybe not the best idea, but gas is expensive and I'd rather not stop more than I have to (I average every 4 days). Although it's consistently over $40 so that sucks too.

Anyone who wants to see the detail I have, PM me and I can email it. But it's bad enough I do it .. why would you want to see it?

^^ forgot to mention ... I drive 90-120 miles each day on the DC beltway. I'd say 85% under 10mph (I rode my bike down yesterday and it was slow enough to put in neutral and walk for close to 2 miles). In that light, I'm pleased with my numbers. I'll let you know how they are when I go to SC this summer. I estimate I should be able to get at least 525 out of a tank with a constant 79mph.

I would rather have sex with Rosie O'Donnell then drive on the DC beltway. GOD I hate the beltway. I was on it today at 10:00 am and it was bumper to bumper for miles. I was late to my appointment.

Strictly highway, I average around 29 mpg, and I don't use cruise control usually.

Around town I average about 16-17 mpg. Granted around town is very stop and go, and I'm a little liberal with the throttle

I usually get 200 miles per "tank" driving strictly around town. It usually takes 14 gallons when the light comes on for me.

I drive about 45-50 miles a day, and usually fill up once a week unless I take a roadtrip on the weekend.

About 12K miles a year... I've got 33K on my CL now (got it in Oct. '02).
