Hello everyone. I'm on my way (this morning) to purchase a 2001 Black w/tan interior 3.2CL. (Dealer- $10,885) I know there are transmission issues, but my question is; does everyone have this problem? It seems the list is long in the forum, but there have to be tons of guys with no issues, right? Thanks in advance.
Also, I have CarFax for 30 days, so if you need a VIN ran, send it to me. I'll screen shot and PM or email back to you.

welcome to the forums, hope you enjoi your CL. i'm on my 2nd CL, its a 2003, never had a problem with it. Acuras have an incredible reputation for being durable. I've known people who had em 10 years without a trip to the shop except for the scheduled stuff. You should be fine.

Welcome to the site.

As for transmission issues, no, not everyone has issues. There are members with 150k-200k miles still on their original transmissions. They do fail at a far higher rate than is considered normal, but it does not mean it is going to fail.

Thanks for the information guys.
Calvin, your VIN report has been emailed to your address. I had to do word doc, but it's all there.

BTW- I passed on the car. It has tons of rock chips and the leather was pretty messed up. I'm still looking though. I really like the car.

Welcome! I have know two close friends who have 03 Acura TLs and both of them have had to get new trannys. It seems they are bound to fail at some poind due to inadequate fluid flow over the second gear clutch pack.

Welcome!

As for tranny issues...it depends. I'm one of those who's had a tranny replacement once already...and so far so good.

Welcome. Tranny issues are hit or miss. I had one replaced. Other than that and the rotors warping, it's a solid car.

^^ I had the tranny replaced at 73k miles and it's been golden since then (painless process when they do it for free and hook you up with either a TSX or TL loaner). The only other issue is the brake rotors but there's plenty of aftermarket drilled or slotted rotors that are 10x better than stock anyway. Oh yeah, welcome to AZ!

Dude, seriously. Give the carfax shit a rest. People from carfax lurk around these threads. If you want a carfax done so bad pay for it yourself.

You guys know that you can get the VIN and call the dealership and they will tell you any service that was done on the car. (i.e, tranny replacement, or any other work done by acura under warranty) Also, carfax is terrible, it is probably 50/50 that it picks up any accident.

My girl got into an accident with her CL about a year ago and there was 5K in damage and it never showed up on carfax.

If the car runs fine, if the car looks fine, and if the car sounds fine, why do you need a website to tell you its good. (Unless it is a salvage car)

i heard that if carfax make a mistake. like how you have an accident and never show up on carfax and is a 5k damage then i think you can report it and they will buy ur car. Or is when you are the buyer and you check with carfax and never show that report and you actually brought it and find out later. I think if you report it they will buy the car for you.

I think its only if there is enough damage to where the car is considered salvage or has a significant decrease in value.

I am not exactly sure, but I wouldn't trust that "Carfax Guarantee".
