Don't forget about the new Honda SUV based on the MDX that's scheduled to come out sometime this year.

My wife is an SUV nut, and I want to get her an MDX.
We'll be hitting the LA auto show on Sunday and I hope they will have some information on it.
Personally I don't know how she can stand SUV's but if you have to get one, it might as well be an Acura. :P

I have an MDX and spend a lot of time on the MDX forum. There were really minor changes made for 2002. The rumored changes for 2003 include:
- 3.8L V6
- HID's
- Interior upgrades (to differentiate it from the Honda Pilot)
- Rear view camera through Navi
- Rear DVD entertainment center
- Changes to the front and rear
When you look at what the MDX is designed for, a Type S version doesn't make a whole lot of marketing sense. For M-B and BMW, less than 1% of X5 and ML sales are the 4.6 and ML55. SUV's are top heavy and their handling isn't that great to begin with. Neither the X5 4.6 or ML55 are any good in bad weather and neither can go off road because of their wheel size and performance tires. If I was going to spend upwards of $60K for a high performance vehicle it wouldn't be based on an SUV.

I doubt the V8 rumors, a bump in displacement would be more like it.
The MDX has a transversly mounted engine, a V8 would be a bit tough to squeeze in there, but bumping displacment through boring or stroking on the current V6 does not change the mounting.
