Anyone here see that new Dodge commercial with the kids in the new red stratus that pull up to the kid in the 5 series (either a 5 series or 3 series, not sure)????

I like how Dodge shows the BMW with a pizza delivery sign on it's roof. The point of the commercial is to show that you can buy a nice car that you can afford without having to work 2 jobs. At the end of the commercial the BMW owner then delivers the pizza in a pizza uniform to the party he was asked to go to but 'couldn't cuz he had to work'.

I think it's funny how Dodge is trying to compare:

A. The quality of their POS Stratus to a 3 series or 5 series. Let's open Kelly Blue Book in 3 years and see where those cars stand.
B. In my eyes the commercial tells me 'If I decide to settle... I might as well get a Dodge.' I guess Dodge is figuring there are a ton of idiots out there who buy a car WAY above what they can realistically afford. If I had 15K i would still buy a honda product over a Dodge. The Dodge simply means that in 3 years when the warranty is shot I'll be more likely to be replacing parts than a more reliable Honda.
C. They showed the BMW at an odd angle, and ofcourse only briefly probably because next to the Dodge lineup, that BMW looks too damn good.
D. I personally think it's lame when car companies can't sell a car for it's value and what it is and have to use these tactics to try and sway people. If you can't afford a BMW, you can't afford one and your just DUMB to buy one.

Yeah, I agree. That commercial is extremely lame. For one thing, they are comparing 2 cars that I don't think are even remotely in the same class (although maybe that was the point). Also, I think the premise of it is highly unlikely. Personally, I don't know too many people who scrape by delivering pizzas just so they can make their loan/lease payments on a BMW. Maybe I just know too many fiscally responsible people? I think their advertising would be a lot more effective if they showed the dodge and another car closer to it's class in terms of performance and quality, but at a higher price, since it's a lot more likely that a person deciding between a stratus and something else would be looking at that car and not the BMW.

 

Agreed... It's funny how companies angle their commercials to try and get potential customers. I'd rather be rolling in a Bimmer over a Dodge anyway...

And I think it's a E36 3-series...

 

i agree...couldn't put my finger on what bothered me about the commercial but you're right - i'd buy an equal priced honda product WAY before i looked at those other cars.

i also wish they'd show more of the bimmer...the one they show is:
1. a black one
2. at night
3. from a strange angle

and i still think its hot...

 

Agreed. How does a comparable new V6 Accord Coupe compare in terms of price to the Stratus R/T? Methinks the Accord would be a few grand more, but it would spank the R/T in the performance category, since I seem to remember the R/T only being able to put up about a mid 7-second 0-60.

Given a choice between those two, I'd take the Accord anyday.

 

The commercial its self is pretty lame, however in some respects its pretty true. Some people definately live beyond their means and purchase cars they really can't afford. They need that status of driving a certain make of car reguardless if they need to live in it or not.

However as stated above I also wouldn't consider a dodge if i was in the $15k market. To each his own.

 

What do you think of the new Audi A4 commerical making fun of the BMW 3 series. It's two guys that live next to each other fixing their mirror....something werid like that.

 

It's a commercial designed to appeal to it's target market...which obviously isn't us...no big deal. Why does it offend you so? Lighten up, it's just a commercial.

 

It's more annoying than offending and since this is car board I just wanted to see some other opinions.

have you seen the new commercial for the HONDA ACCORD???

the whole commercial is different shots of the interior and exterior of the Accord while they are playing a cd in the car that is supposed to be a "teach yourself GERMAN" cd....its like all these german words for "stylish", "luxurious", etc...shit like that...give me a fucking break....sure, the honda accord is now on par with german automobiles (aka BMW, MB)???

every car manufacturer, even your beloved honda is trying to shoot for the status of a BMW....even acura!! so dont knock Dodge for trying, its not like they are the only ones!

 

I'm not a big fan of dodge commercials in general but I understand the humor of the absurd that they throw it...like the Ram with the Hemi..."You mean the Charger, 'cause that's got a hemi too." The plot of the commercial is pretty absurd...but it's witty. The BMW commercial is the same way. They're thinking a little differently and having fun doing it. So I say "Go for it."

Your right, to a certain extent all car companies are gonna do things like this. I guess this one is just a lil over-exageratted in my book. A stratus to a 3 series, I don't see it.

Use it. Just kidding. I like that Dodge commercial. There are too many wanna-be richies out there that think because they drive a nice car, they are god's gift. I know a few people that pay more for a car payment than rent, and I won't get into the "why the hell don't you use your car payment money and buy yourself a freakin condo."

I think you're gonna get mostly a one-sided view of this subject on a car enthusiasts board. A lot of people view a car as simply transportation. I am not one of them...

What would a BMW owner be doing at a party that's ordering pizza. I mean, if you own a 3 series you'd be going to wine tasting parties and eating esacargo and hour derves (sp).
