New CLK on the way...

Coupe fans will soon be spoilt for choice by Mercedes. Hot on the heels of the newly launched Sports Coupé, the company is readying the next generation of its CLK, seen here almost undisguised for the first time.
The striking red prototype shows how the all-new model, due for launch at the Geneva Motor Show next spring, will be bigger, faster and more upmarket than the car it replaces.

In a similar fashion to the current range, Mercedes stylists have cleverly built the new CLK to resemble the next generation E-Class, but underneath it actually shares most major components with the smaller C-Class.

However, to distance the new car from the smaller and cheaper Sports Coupé, the chassis has been stretched to make it longer and wider. It's lower too, with an arched roofline and large rear lights. Most of the powerplants have been picked from the new C-Class range, starting with a 2.0-litre supercharged unit and rising to an AMG version which has the 354bhp supercharged V6. The 4.3-litre V8 has not been ruled out either. The company will also offer turbodiesels for the first time, including the new 2.7-litre five-cylinder and 3.2 CDI V6.

More surprisingly, there will also be a four-wheel drive version – a first for a Mercedes coupé. Designed to challenge the forthcoming Audi A4 Coupé and Jaguar X-Type – both of which have 4x4 transmissions – the all-wheel drive option will be offered with the high power petrol versions. Drop-top fans will see a convertible model in early 2003.

Thats the point. Your supposed to barf at camo cars.

This thing will be totally pimp when unveiled.

Ive seen renderings and other claimed spy shots... it is a total pimp mobile.

If they improve their navi... and move the interior up into its price range... I will definately put this on the next car list.

HAVENT YOU SEEEN THE NEW E-CLASS?!? PIMP

Imagine that in a coupe.

Yeah the new E-class IS gorgeous, but that looks too much like the Lexus SC430, too curvy and blobby.

I think this is GREAT news. Now, when this car comes out, the old bodystyle pricing will go DOWN, and I'll be able to get one at a MUCH better price.... can you say 430 at the 320 price!

I sure wish I had the time to sit home all day and read magazine articles.

Not to mention the time it takes to post long articles and scan magazine pics to post them here.

Gavriil, for such a busy guy, you've got a lot of time on your hands.

There is always time for interesting things to read. A newly designed CLK is much more interesting than packing my bags and going to the track.
