Today I bought an 01 cl type s at carmax. I have a couple of questions. And yes, I have browsed the forums so I am not that naive to start asking questions without first researching.

First of all, the car is black, and does not have a spoiler. Where is the best place to get one (I already checked ebay and they have nothing).

Second, the previous owner debadged the car. It is missing the A C U R A letters and the 3.2 CL Type S emblem. Where is the best place to find these? I am having trouble finding the ACURA letters.

Lastly, being a new owner, I am sure there are things I need to take care of. Do any of yall have any suggestions as to what I might find useful/benficial for the car?

there are couple of spoilers on ebay. Also the you can find letters on Ebay.

 

why would you want to put the badges back on? looks without em unless the previous owner screwed the paint up when they took em off.

 

I'd change the oil and filter, the coolant/antifreeze, break fluid, timing belt, and maybe the trans fluid. Also check the break pads to see how they are, and check the rotor thickness. Im not sure how thick they are to be on the second gens, but look around or call Acura.

Well how many miles does the car have first? And why Carmax? As such, you likely paid way too much.

 

word, carmax=mo money...BUT!! My mom was offered 14,500 for her durango ('99 R/T with 55,000) 2 years ago at carmax while the jeep dealership only offered 10,000 for trade. Also Carmax wrote her the 14,500 check on the spot!!!

 

Just got to any Acura dealer and get the emblems, or try google online for acura emblems....same with a spoiler, just do a search online, you'll find some....

Before offering advice on what to change, check for service records in the car and post the number of miles on the car.

I saw an 01 CL-S for 9995 somewhere in Jersey last night while looking at a magazine, it didn't list the mileage.

 

Timing belt isn't due till 105K miles. Gotta know the mileage on the car before you mention the timing belt....

 

Didn't see mention of the major concern on 01 CLs, the tranny. Have a dealer or Car max check the history, work done, and if it has been replaced (and how many times). tranny warranty is good for 100k miles.

My 03 CLS came with the OEM spoiler but I prefer the spoilerless look. They sell knockoffs on ebay pretty cheap. You'll have to drill 5 holes in your trunklid.
I like the lip look better.

Thanks for the responses. First of all, it has a tad bit over 81,000 miles. I paid 14900 for it, has navi, and i have a three year warranty with carmax. Carmax is actually a really good company, you just gotta search for the deals. Do yall think I should take it to an Acura dealer to have it checked out, especially the tranny?

Second, I'm still deciding on the emblems. In a way, I like how nobody knows if it's a type s or not. But the other side of me likes the stock look. I'll leave it as is for now.

Spoiler I'm still deciding on too. I put one on my old car (Volvo 850) but I liked it more when it didn't have a spoiler. I'm also not comfortable drilling five holes in the trunk

Lastly, I want to get yalls opinions on tint. It has no tint for now, but I think that black on black deserves a tint. I don't want something extreme like a limo tint (we have no tint laws in GA) but I don't want it too light. I was thinking maybe 30%? I'm new to Acuras, though I am an expert on Volvos. Any help yall can offer would be great. Thanks again for the responses.

 

m3/m5 spoiler = no holes, on tint.....illegal is the only way!!

 

Bull shit, we don't! I got cited 3 weeks ago for window tint.

 

Infact, the law is between 32% and 29% is legal. Mine registered at 16%. Any other questions on the tint law here in GA, hit me on AIM. AccordMonster.

 

 

That's interesting about those citations. I'm over in Duluth and a lot of my friends have dark tint, like 15%. The law was taken away in 04, but I think they changed it back to 30% this year. http://www.iwfa.com/iwfa/Law_Chart/S...aw%20Chart.htm Anyway, I was looking to get around 30% anyways.
