New CL Owner

Hi guys, I just wanted to introduce myself.

My name is Chris and I just purchased a 2003 Acura CL-Type S this past weekend. Sadly it wasn't a M/T. I'm 20 years old and I have no moving violations which helped me out on the raping I received with my insurance company. I'm an internal PC tech for UPS and I happened to stumble across this site on my break. I must say that from the few threads Ive browsed I've come to the conclusion that I'm in the right place.

I hope that I don't irritate you guys too bad with dumb questions and what not, dont worry I know how to use the search function.

For a guy with a loaded CL that is stock, what would you all reccomend as my 1st MOD. Im not going to do too much with it but I'd like to add a little something to set it apart be it visual or performance. I'm already looking at the IPOD thread.

If thats what you plan on doing, leave the site. If you stick around here, you'll go broke. We'll have your money spent for you. Look at me, I have my money spent for the next few years

And for a first mod, springs and wheels will set your car apart.

drop the ride, get some new shoes, change exhaust, add tranny cooler since your 5AT, change headers, clear your lights, tint your ride.

hell do whatever you want, if u wanna find info just use the search button.

and i spent a crapload of $$ on my car and im only spending more each day... a-cl def is a catalyst for that

but you'll love working on the car, it becomes an addiction

welcome

My checkbook is still recovering from the initial purchase of the vehucle. Im glad to see that this car is one that can be modded decently. Being my 1st purchase I wanted something I could have fun in and maybe toy around with.

Have any of you modded your Navi system to play DVDs? If you have, was it worth it for you?

Also, I plan to change my backlight for the clusters.

^ If you don't mind. Could you explain to me what those two mods will do to my car? I have a general idea of what they both are.

H&R sprungs - will lower the car, which get rid of the ungodly wheel gap and your car will handle better to boot.

COmptech Icebox - replaces stock intake. will give you roughly 8-10 whp (slightly noticeble by the butt dyno) and will give you a little deeper tone when you open up the engine.

How much would those modifications run me?

In the next week I plan on tinting my windows. What percentages do you guys recommend?

Springs = 200 roughly + install 150 (or you coud do it yourself) + alignment (70)
Icebox= 250 from c-c-c.net

tint, depends. I have 30 % titanium from llumar and I like it. no problems seeing at night and it is dark enough for me.

Some people tint their windshield, some don't. What windows do you have tinted?

Hey mclarenf3387, have you had any problems with tinting the front windows in jersey? I've been going back and forth with A) getting pulled over for something stupid and they tack on another ticket for tints and B) not passing inspection.

Congrats and welcome to the board.

As said before i'd go with the CT Icebox intake for starters.

All but the front windsheild, but I may tint that lightly after I get my inspection done.

The cops haven't been a problem. Haven't got hasseled at all and have gotten parking tickets, etc. As for inspection, I have to figure that out. I have to find a place that will pass me with the tints. Usually any local gas station will do it for $50, but I'll let you know when I get mine done. As it is I'm over do by 2 months

handling and braking are deficiencies on the cls. (as related to power, which is very good.) lowering springs or coilover shocks coupled w/ anti sway bars solve handling, slotted plated rotors, upgraded pads AND st.stl. brake lines solve braking. to further enhance handling , stiffer plus size summer tires complete the BALANCING of the cls.
then..... engine power upgrades (now theres a loaded subject)
welcome to the site

^ Thank you for the invitation. If I can get some time away from work I'd be more than happy to join in. Just dont leave me too far in the dust with my stock CLS.

I would drop my car but this is the only mode of transportation that I have. I know that its not an SUV but when we do get some snow I'd like to be able to retain some sort of ability to make it through to work. Lowering my car would drastically affect that, wouldn't it? If not then I'd do it.

Plenty of us North Easterners have dropped rides and they are our only mode of transportation. As long as you don't flat out SLAM your car, you'll be fine. Trust me, once you drop the car with a mild drop, you'll wonder why it didn't come like that from the factory.

Can you explain to me what the good points of dropping are? Its not simply cosmetic is it?

No. Our stock suspension sucks the big one and the lowering springs help control some of the body roll and improve the handling. It also is cosmetic, but you will feel a big difference in the handling by just replacing the springs and a huge difference if you do springs/struts/sways.

About how much will that run me? If its not too expensive I may do that 1st.

Thank you and everyone else for the warm welcome. I could tell when I came across this board that it'd be a nice place to be a memeber.

we you should just bitt eh bullet and buy the full tien coilover system which is right around 1000, and the sways would be another 200 or so on top of that

Instead of putting rims on the car for the spring, I may consider doing this instead.

Sadly my car didn't come with floor mats. I want to keep my car in prestine condition so I'm currently shopping for some mats. I like these mats in this link.

They're cheaper than the dealer mats. Acura said they cost $154, I assume the ones I plan on getting are a bit thicker.

What do you guys think?
