new ballast/ignitor

My car is pushing 140k miles and I'm sure that the original ballast/ignitor from Acura is still installed (nothing wrong I just wanna prevent future problems).

I was wondering if replacing the ballast/ignitor would increase the light output and make the HIDs 'brighter'?

If so, is there any company that makes a replacement I could buy instead of having Acura charge me a couple hundred per ballast/ignitor.

I doubt a new unit would increase output. The bulbs will degrade over time and would have the biggest impact on output. As a preventative measure, you could always apply some silicone to the balast to seal the area where the wires exit the ballast body.

Why take a shortcut with brakes, tires, pads, wipers, or lights? OEM is OEM for a reason and with 140k on them now I'd say you did fine.

Replacing the ballast/ignitor wont make much if any difference. you would be better off replacing the bulbs. They get dimmer with time and they arent as expensive as ballasts/ignitors.

Yeah, you don't need to replace the ballasts and ignitors until you have a parts failure, meaning no light at all. Also, stick to 4300K bulbs when you replace them. As the K value increases, they aren't as bright. Even blue bulbs at 6000K seem dim, especially in the rain. There's definitely a tradeoff between bling and bright. Just my 2 cents.
