neutral drops in all wheel drive....

friend of mine had the bright idea of revving the engine to redline in his cadillac EXT and then dropping it into drive. he said he wanted to see what would happen with the AWD, see if he could spin the tires. well needless to say his transmission blew out completely. he had to drive home in reverse.

some people should not be allowed to own automobiles.

Damn, if you knew you was going to do it sooner, you should take some video clips of him doing it.

Talk about it getting owned...

I can only imagine how violently the car shook and all the loud-ass sounds it made while the tranny blew up...

OMG... Too funny.

Considering how dumb people can be, car companies should add smart systems in order to just electronically reject any stupid idea that a driver can have.

a friend of mine is a service tech at subaru and they are starting to not cover wrx clutches for almost the same reason. Too many people doing clutch drops trying to get all 4 to spin. They are very strict on the STI

I thought cars have limiter on reving in neutral? Our cars cut off somewhere in the 5k range I believe.

Nonetheless, idiot.

yeah good point...well maybe it wasn't actually up to redline. thats what he said, I wasn't there. I guess even if there is a rev limiter you can still get the RPMs up high enough to blow out the transmission.

haha yeah no shit...especially an escalade with 23 inch chrome wheels....

but no, he did this a couple blocks from his house in his neighborhood so I think it was a quarter mile or so. I would imagine he would have called a towtruck if it was any further.

but then, he did a neutral drop in an escalade. maybe he would have been dumb enough to drive down the 101 in reverse...ha

maybe, but probably not too bad from one time. a cl-s will just spin the tires. the escalade is all wheel drive, so it couldnt spin the wheels and blew the tranny instead.

from the way he told the story, the transmission just made some really loud clunking noises and then it stopped working. I don't think he spun anything at all.

oh wait a minute...tyres? whats a tyre?
