Newbie here guys... Looking at getting an '01 CLS, triptronic, cause of all the traffic in LA. Found a couple around Socal (private party) for around $15500-$16000. Drove one yesterday actually, 55k miles black with tan interior...very clean. The guy will go for $15700. Is it a good deal?

you should be able to find them cheaper than that...offer 13.5K...if he bites, go for it. If not, look around some more

Find a 2003 6MT. Stay away from 5AT. I have been driving my '01 CL-S since Feb., 2000. Pretty good car except trans. I'm on tranny number two working on number three. My Welcome to the forum!

$15,700 is a good price, but you could still probably get it for less given the reputation our cars have for losing so much of their value so fast.

If you really like the car, it's in very good condition, see if he can go down at least to 15,000 as long as your serious about purchasing, you have 45k warrantee on that tranny, check your tires, interior, and make sure the previous owner was not a youngin, we tend to beat up our cars more than an older person.
BTW welcome to the board

I Just bought my 01 cl-s (white/black, 5AT)a couple of weeks ago. i paid a little over 16 from the dealer. i have 49,000 left on my warranty. i say if its a private party ask 14,500 you shouldnt pay as much as i did if its not from the dealership...trade in on my car is 13,700 so that should give you an idea of resale value.

seems somewhat high unless pristine condition and extended vehicle warantee. since is a/t, the transmission recall work should be completed by now. all maintenence records should come with your purchase

And welcome.

I drive an '03 CLS 6MT all the time in traffic. I actually prefer it over an auto in traffic.

^ 6MT is great, but that's just silly.

I think so too. It's really hard to find anything of quality under 15k especially here is Socal. The blue book on these is around $16,300 so anything around 15.5k it's probably not bad.

LA traffic is pretty damn bad. I agree with you that there is nothing like a good 6 speed and I would probably consider it, if I were living somewhere else...

I can't help myself, I just hate driving stick-challenged cars. I've been driving most MT cars for about 35 years. I just feel more comfortable driving stick in traffic.

Did that include taxes and everything else?

it is a long story...car was originally 19,995 when i first saw it....the car stayed on the lot for 5 months during which time they dropped the price to 16,995(which shows you just how little they had in the car). the same day i went in he had just dropped the price to 15,995. i offered 15 out the door. they said 15,800 plus tax and title....i really wanted the car so i didnt argue too much i took the car for 15,500 plus tax and title. it was 16,717.50 all said and done.

Well it turns out this guy wants me to pay tax since it's a lease, with him covering the difference in the buyout. I told him no way since the total price would be around $16,800.
