Need your input on this

What's the point of modding a car? I want to mod my cl but then most of my friends said your just wasting valuable money on stupid things. I mean I used to think that modding a car shows your personality and style. Now I don't know what to think. I just feel like everyone is against me. Please can pplz just give me some input on this? Thx

I mean I'm not trying to go full blown show or anything just make the car look decent. Like with rims, factory spoiler, exhaust, and lower the car like my friend Kritikadeo on this forum did to his exterior.

Well this is an interesting question, and one that varies greatly from person to person. Some people mod cars to make them faster, handle better, look different and unique from the next person's....and the list goes on and on.

Now as far as your friends thinking your stupid...well that's just their own opinion. Modding car is a hobby...I bet your friends have hobbies that YOU think are stupid and a waste of time (like playing video games, collecting baseball cards, buying expensive clothes, etc). This just tends to be a more expensive hobby than others.

On this site, there probably isn't a soul who really thinks modding the car is stupid...it's a blast to do and everyone here takes pride in what they have accomplished.

And in the end, who really cares what OTHER people think. It's really only important in what YOU think that really matters. If you enjoy modding cars, don't mind spending the money, and putting in the sweat and tears, then more power to you. Go for it!

If you budget well, take your time, and be creative, you can have a wonderful sounding, performing, and looking car without breaking the bank!!

Good luck!

I have to agree with Dream on this one! Modding is in the eye of the beholder and if you feel that that is what you would like to do with your time then that is your gig... are what they are because when you have everyone looking at your car instead of theirs, and them wishing that it was them with your ride, "priceless"

The mods I’ve done to my cars both current and in the past are mainly to just give it a little performance boost and make them look different then others of the same make/model/color that I might see on the road.

Yes, it’s a waste of money in the long run, but so are fancy clothes & an expensive hairstyle.

There are how many hundreds of thousands of TL's on the road out there? A bunch. I want to look a little different, plus, give the car an extra boost. Anything you buy can be considered a waste of money by someone.

A friend of mine thinks I'm nuts for spending money on my car... yet he has 3 fish tanks, one a salt-water, which is not cheap to setup and maintain nevermind stocking it with fish..... so, to each their own. It's a hobby, and people spend money on their hobbies....

Much like Shawn said, I modded my car to be somewhat different and for a bit of a performance boost. I also wanted better handling.

Some people will always consider hobbies to be a waste of money. It's all in personal preference.

My car and Karate are my hobies. They take up a decent portion of my money but I really wouldn't have it any other way. I enjoy them too much.

My friends give me the same shit. But I just tell them they probably spend the same amount of money on their girlfriend and my car is just my girlfriend. It's my hobby and gives me something to do in my spare time. I also like to distinguish my CL from other CL's.

Like the guys above me said, there are a few reasons to mod a car. Some do it to be different, some do it for more performance. Whenever anyeone has ever asked me why I spent money on my cars I said that instead of spending my money on drugs and clothes and stupid gadgets, I spent my money on my car. Ok well maybe I spent some money on But my cars are my hobby. I've got $20k invested into my Honda, and about $4k into my Acura. However, I still paid my bills, my tuition, my rent, etc so in the end I wasn't hurting anyone.

Modding becomes stupid when it interferes with your financial life to the point where you can't pay your bills or have a plate of food.

Done with respect, modding is like any other hobby out there, just a very expensive one.

Why be the same with all the other cars out there when you can look and perform differently? I paid to "drive" my car, that includes making it more enjoyable.

Don't listen to your friends. I used to feel the same way. Then with my first car, I realized how much more I enjoyed driving after I changed the stereo. My second car was also stock, then I got wheels, lowered it, intake, exhaust and stereo. Again, it became more fun to drive. With my CL-s, I got one that had some mods to begin with. I got headers put in, and I plan on doing more. New wheels, coilovers, maybe someday a supercharger.

It's a really expensive hobby, but I take more pride in my car for all the changes I have or will put into it.

I'd say if you posted this thread you want to mod your car, you just feel like you will be criticized by your friends for doing so. Do what you like, man.

I could wait to change the stock crap in the CL. If I didn't, I probably wouldn't own it by now.

Yeah, thankfully the CL is super easy to take apart...and the Bose is simple to bypass....My BMW's Harman/Kardon is a pain in the arse...I had to rewire the whole car.

almost everything we spend $$ on would be called a waste by someone.

Do what pleases you . . . just don't forget your primary financial obligations first . . .

I think people love modding because you take something and try to make it better. Who doesnt like a challenge In reality though, sometimes life makes you put a hold on these types of ventures. I say if you want to mod, mod. But dont let people tell you its stupid. Typically these people have no real idea of the process. Its your own work of art in a way.

Modding your car is no different the picking your clothes out, or decorating your apartment. I can understand where people can say its a waste because a car is a losing investment. Thats true, but as long as you don't exceed your means than its not a waste and it can be a fun hobby or addiction . You see people rip their clothes up and dye their hair to be unique why is it wrong to make ur car unique also?
