Need some advice...What would u do???

Hey all,

My GF is deciding to get a new car...She is wants to ditch her 00 volvo S40, which i think is a POS...esp. the 00 model since its the 1st year. Anyways, she now wants to get a japanese made car since her s40 was leaking oil from the tranny...BTW, the oil color is black as hell. In order to fix the problem, the entire engine and transmisson must be removed from the car. Also, the tranny has to be taken apart in order to determine exactly what is causing the leak. This repair will cost over $1000 and not to mention the risk of having the mechanic fuk something else up, which would cause more problems later on.

Besides this oil problem, the car IMO, drives ok...at least the last time i drove it...It doesnt seem to shift oddly at all. THe only other thing is that the car rattles like there's no tomorrow. Every door panel vibrates and is just plain loud an annoying....Sounds like it will fall apart. Whatever happend to swiss engineering and quality????

Anyways, ditch the car or not??

The car she is lookin at is an IS300 or Accord v6 coupe...No matter what the car must have a navi.

Her budget is around 30k but less than 35k....Seeing how the IS300 has been around for a while, there prolly wont be a markup...and honda's year end clearance and 2.9% APR also sounds appealing.

Do u guys have any suggesstions as to other cars to consider for that price range with a NAVI? I said TSX but she's worried that since its the 1st model year, she will have problems just like her volvo. She wont buy european and wants a V6.

Any comments will be appreciated.

IS300 (would be my choice).

I have 2 friends (women) that drive Lexus. Totally impressed with quality as well as service. As most of us have found out, Acura is not that high on quality (tranny) and customer service.

just my 2 cents

Why not a USED IS300? 2002 for around 25/26k...... ....although finding navi in a used one will be tough.

Why would anyone reccomend a used car when the budget is 30 to 35k. I have a 03 CLS 6 and an 04 TSX with Navi and IMO the TSX would be perfect. If you have any doubts about styling have her sit in it and then sit in the Lexus IS300. You will end up with the TSX.

Have her test drive both the TSX and the IS300 and see what she likes. (Dont tell her the TSX is a 4 cylinder, see if she notices :-) Getting a new IS300 with Navi will be hovering around the 35k range.

If she is really big on the V6 then wait til October for the new TL.

because you get more bang for the $$$.... 30-3k budget is cutting it CLOSE. Get a 1-2 years old, and get more for your money.

Since your girlfriend doesnt want to drive a 4 cylinder. I say the IS300 is good. The new tl's looks like its going tobe over 35k out the door. You can always goto nissan with the g35.

She bought a Swiss built Volvo? Ah, no wonder. Most are built by Swedes.

TL-S might fit in the price range with some negotiating. I'm sure they want to clean house before the new ones arrive.
