Talking Need Some Advice on How to Make This GPS Holster

Hey guys, I need some advice on how to go about this small project that want to do. I have this aftermarket radio adapter that a cubby built into it and I want to utilize that cubby in order to fit my gps unit into it. It's really annoying getting the gps out and sticking it onto the window and that that none sense, if you have one you would know what im talking about. Anyways, I need some advice on which materials to get, preferably at a local store like Home Depot. I need the GPS to slide in/out of the cubby. So I've seen some desks that have drawers that can swivel up/down, in/out and that what I'm trying to do. I hope you understand what i'm saying. I've also attached a rough picture of what I want it to look like and do. BTW, the GPS dimensions are
4.9"W x 3.1"H x .75"D (12.5 x 7.9 x 1.9 cm) and yes, it can fit into the cubby. Here is the product page, https://buy.garmin.com/shop/shop.do?pID=64339

Basically, I need some drawer guides like this or something, but that can also fold and go up

Hope someone knows what I'm talking about...I need some hardware know-how

i have kind of same set up as u for aftermarket CD/dvd. I have flip out screen which is perfect position but covers my ac controls altough it have tilt feature so i can stick my figner behind to press button or just flip screen back into the unit.
Well when i use gps i flip screen back in and use the pull out tray to host my gps. it think its much higher than the slot below so you might wana think about putting it there. you can easily modify the tray to fit like 5 inch gps. using either and old junk laptop hinges or may be something like kitchen cabinet hinges or just a simple dorr hinge but not sure how would u attach that to gps.. superglue??..oh i would also figure out how to power it lol.. using the outlet in the center console be prolly gud.. as u can hide the wire under the paneling and somehow pull it out behind the tray in dash..that would be quiet work..

Wait, so your saying that you modified that CD holder above the car's radio to fit your GPS into? That's seems alot better but I still need some direction here. Can you possible take a picture of your setup for me?

umm.. i think its more like a dirary or pen holder. I havent modified it yet. but considered it. I just pull it out.. just enough to place my gps unit int it when i need gps.. i dont use it a lot. I was just giving suggestion that the placement there will be better. I dont have any pics but i can post some this weekend of how i use the tray as gps holder.

I just noticed that ur gps is also thick like mine magellen... so first see if it even fits in the tray... the tray have some humps build in to hold pen en cads i guess... may have to remove them in order for it to fit.

So heres the update, I bought the vent mount like someone suggested and I'm going to route the line from the 12v port that's in the center console to the/through the vent mount. It seems the easiest and isn't too noticeable without the actual GPS mounted on it. My biggest gripe was taking the whole assembly apart after I was done using the gps and this vent mount seems like the best alternative. I was actually thinking that what if someone CUT the actual vent and installed a gps in place of it. I measured, but alas my GPS was too big for the vent. But there are some small garmins that'll fit in there perfectly. That is, if you don't mind having one of your air vents blocked by the gps. Thanks for the comments guys and good luck to anyone else who's trying to do this. I'll try and post pictures up once I complete it, now it's finals time.
