I added some 30mm wheel spacers to my 2002 CL and now i have a stupid vibration when I am around 90KM. I have already re-balance my wheels and i am using after market lugs and the problem is still there. I dont have after market rims.

Can someone point me in the right direction on when to do to fix this please.

 

30 mm spacers are HUGE. You are creating more leverage on the hub assembly when u offset the whole rim as it is not designed to be on the car like that technically.

So when u turn especially if u can imagine your hub is under a lot more stress. Plus your wheel now is 3 centimetres further out of the car which means 3 centimetres of your whole wheel is now putting extra stresses on everything.

You may have a slightly bad wheel bearing and now the leverage is just too much and it's telling you it needs replacing.

Is it only one wheel is it the whole car? Is it only the front or the back?

Is the wheel actually moving with this vibration or is it a resonance through the car? I have never seen a wheel bearing make the wheel shake or wobble at any point and I have seen some terrible bearings that have a lot of play.


I would jack the car up one Sid at a time and yank on the wheels to see if there is any play.

Only jack one side at a time so the rest of the wheels are on there ground so when u do the front and yank on it you don't end up just moving the steering wheel, then u can feel any sort of play.

Take ur time and keep looking. You'll find it. Or u can swing by me and we can throw it on the hoist to see what's up one day

 

Dont forget, they do make hubcentric spacers!

 

Why would you need 30mm spacers? 30mm is a lot. What were you trying to achieve? Are you trying to make it handle better during cornering?

 

Probably using them with stock wheels.

 

Buy rims and tires that fit the look u want and then u will see wheel spacers got nothing on em.

 

Just as aznboi2424 & CL-S Progression had pointed out, buy rims & tires to fit the way you like them to look.

As far as what I did, going from stock 195/60-16 to a +1 upgrade with 225/50-17, I can definitely feel a steadier ride, better cornering ability & quick lane switching ability just by this change. And that is without lowering the suspension. Imagine what can be done if it's a +2 upgrade with 18 inch wheels & lowering your suspension.

My advice is just to forget them spacers & spend some $ on a set of wheels & coils.

 

I would reccommend a 8 inch wide rim by 18 high. 40mm offset to 45 mm.... I had 35 and it rubbed the rear fender with a 17x7 inch rim I believe.

Tires I would get 225/40/18. Or u can go 225/45/18. But I like the smaller tires cause the speedo reads higher than u are going so u are less likely to get a ticket and u have more wheel well space. If u go with the 45s the tire is bigger the speedo reads low and therefore u end up speeding more.

I get compliments on my stance all the time, and it's not amazing, it's just the way it should have looked from the factory IMHO

 

Are your spacers hub centric and what brand are they? I have 25mm on mine and have had the car upto 140mph with no vibration at all

 

15mm hub centric spacers here and no problems either.

 

I have 15mm spacers w/no issues either (& I hate them just b/c of the look, they are only on b/c of the RL BBK)

Those front wheels look .... lol they must be smashing ur fender front and rear when u hit a nasty bump u cannot avoid.

I had wheels stick out like that and it made me roll the fenders... And three years later they are rusting.. If I knew then what I knew now.

U need some camber if u plan on leaving everything the way u have it sir. Cause if u roll the fenders it will rust out due to our lovely Toronto climate and salted roads.
