need help pricing out s2000

I didn't want to hijack the msrp v invoice v cost thread but I need a little more specific help.

I am trying to buy an 04 s2k in a specific color, and I have heard that you can't really get deals on them...

I went in yesterday and the deal they gave us was full price, with a free lip spoiler (but with 299 processing fee i am still paying for it), so I went to leave and they almost blocked the door...crazy f*ckin salesmen, they brought the finance manager over, then some other manager, there were gonna shit that I wasn't gonna sign my life away that moment

Anyway, the dilemna is that I live in NoVA so there are a ton of Honda places to go to, but I am trying to get one particular color with the black and red leather seating... (and this dealership has it)

Will I be able to beat sticker price on this car???

Don't take me for a fool, I only paid 30,500 for my CL-S 6 with navi and that included freight, it just seems that everywhere I check out no one paid under sticker, and edmunds market value says sticker too.

Need some feedback please!

stupid edit, I forgot to mention that they started me out at 33,980 as the "market value", I almost laughed in the guy's face, and he was like ok I will discount it to 33K for you, and I was like how about we start from the sticker price (32,800) first, which he did

I tried that too, they are quoting full price as well.

I might really get it because it is a remodel, but damn that thing is sweet.

It seems that if everyone is paying sticker and the car websites like Edmund and Carsdirect are showing prices at sticker as well, bottom line is that if you want one now... you'll be paying sticker.

Why not wait a little while? I mean, when the TL came out most people were paying sticker... but now you can get for for $1k or more under MSRP. The new S2k is a fairly new release and had some changes, and since it came out recently, the price is only going to hold steady through the spring... why not wait until mid-summer or so and scoop one up. Better yet, buy one at the end of the summer and you'll probably get a killer deal. Never buy a car when it's first released. And don't use your CL-S as a guide. With the exception of the first month the 6-speed was out dealers were practically giving them away since the CL is discontinued. The S2k is a popular car.... so at this point the only thing to do is be patient.

I know the Cl-S is nothing to compare too, and I completely agree, but am in a position where I need a second car now. The other options were the G and Z, but the S2k still seems like a good deal at full sticker for what I am looking for.

All the dealers around here have their full stock of cars per dealer (3) because they are all huge dealers, I only negotiated with one dealer and drove through another lot, but I was just trying to check before I drive all over trying to get a better deal that no one will give.

It's not really worth it to pick up another car for a few months either because I am sure I will lose money, or lose enough that it will match any discount I would get on the s2k

thanks for the input

I agree with Junior.

Try this, go to edmunds.com and find about 5 dealers closest to you. Email each one with the same thing, just that you want this color with these options. Also tell them the price you want to pay and at the end say that the first dealer to agree with my price will get the sale and that you will come in the same day and leave a deposit.

Worth a shot, hell you might be able to get $500 off if you order it, but then you gotta wait.

Sounds like a plan, I do have about a week to make a move, so I am trying to gather all my options before I decide, the backup also is that if no one has it I can still order one, but that would take 4-6 weeks

Also nice thing about doing it that way is that the dealer has no idea how old you are

Right.. it was released in September.... right before the winter, right before the cold months. Now you're looking to buy a very popular convertable 6-8 weeks before spring, when convertables are the in thing to drive. It's going to be tough to get a good price when you're looking to buy a hot car during a hot time to buy it.

Crazy is right though... if you want one now your best bet is to go to several dealers in your area (you mentioned there were a bunch) and have them battle against each other.... best price wins your business. Just keep in mind though.. that if you walk out of a dealership, someone else will buy that S2k. Like you said... they may not let you leave easily b/c they want that sale now... but bottom line is that dealers usually do not have S2000's sitting on the lot... so if you don't buy it at that price someone else will.

Yeah, but fortunately I haven't seemed to have a problem with my age, I think the dealers are accustomed to rich kids who walk in with mommy and daddy money, so I might actually appear decently old to some of them, plus I was older than the guy trying to sell me the car.

the 2.2 s2000 is freaking amazing. Just buy it, I can't imagine regretting it.

Be sure to spend as much time haggling with your apr as you are with the price of the car.

yeah i tried the s2ki website, but they seem to be really slow to respond, but I am trying that route also... a-cl always seems to be there faster

I can check the inventories online, so I know that all the local dealerships have 3 to 4, so I know that they are around

and I have links to my hometown in the Virginia Beach area, so there are probably about 20-25 s2000's within my buying area, I am not really worried about not being able to find one when spring hits

NoVA = Northern Virginia i.e. Fairfax/Arlington/ Washington DC

the apr is set at 3.9% right now by honda

that helps, but I know I won't regret it! that thing is freaking amazing, I highly reccomend going to test drive even if you have no intention of buying one, the honda guys drooled over the 6 spd cl-s

but I have never felt anything like that from honda (the rwd)

of course I have gone from 3 accords, and the cl, to a roadster so

the only thing they said on the s2000 site is that people drove down to my area to get a better deal because the dealerships around here have so much competition they might cut a deal,

whereas a podunk honda dealership with one or two s2k's will get at least full sticker because there are no choices

Don't buy a nice new S2k if you are living in NOVA right now. You'll hate driving a brand new car through all this nasty winter weather we have. Wait till at least March man. Good Luck.

I completely agree, it will probably be in like a week that I get it, two max, I am hoping the leftover ice and snow will clear up by then, but it will get garaged either way, the weather helped out some yesterday for a test drive and the thing is amazing

can't wait to get the top down

Take a look at the customer discussions on Edmunds. It sounds like deals are out there ... you just have to find them. Also, when I was at my Acura dealer, I noticed an e-mail on his desk that had a note that said "Try to match Texas Deal" ... E-mail Goodman Honda in Houston (I don't know the e-mail address, sorry) and try to get a deal ... when you get their final price, shop it out in your area to see if any one will get close to it. Just a thought.

Or find a nice used one like I did.

IMO, the GP white with Red/Black interior is the best color combo, and it's pretty rare too. Most of them you see are all either silver or black.

done and done, picking it up sat morning... for 04 the only options of the red and black leather are with the two silvers, but I got the silverstone metallic:

I'll post real pics this weekend or monday

Paying 30,100 for it plus 460 freight and tax, saved almost 3K by checking things out a little more, thanks cls2001 for your help
and everybody else

its too bad too because I got offered as low as 29,800 to take the sebring silver with black/red and the same price for any other color with black leather

but had to have the silverstone

so if you want to buy the s2000 don't pay more than 30K for it...

Very, very nice! Welcome to the S2000 Family!

You did the right thing. With a car like this, don't settle for something less than what you want for a few bucks.. later down the road you will regret it.

Took me almost a year to find my White with Red/Black Interior.

Congrats!! You got a great deal by the way.

Yeah it's totally worth it to get the color you want. I went through the same frustration you did in trying to find the Silverstone red/black combo. You're going to be really happy with the car.

Now just take it easy for the first 600 miles.

Oh and go join www.s2ki.com if you haven't already!!

I was THIS close to buying a S2K, but needed something more practical for a daily driver.

I absolutely love that color combo.

Nice work!
