Need group support--just ordered SSR GT1 rims

Well, Tirerack had these on sale for only 299$ each and i think these rims look really good on our car from other members pics.

I went for the 17X7.5 with +48 offset for a number of reasons:

1. The 17's are lighter than the 18's making for better performance. (17's = 16.5-17.0 pounds)

2. the 18's are 100$ more per wheel.

3. I have almost new 17" tires right now that I'd like to remount.

4. I don't want to spend an additional 600$ on tires.
(Truly, this is the most important reason).

5. 17" will preserve some ride quality.

6. Overall diameter of 17" wheel with 235/45/17 tire is just about exactly the same as an 235/40/18 tire so it won't reduce wheel gap anymore than it already is.

But, I just couldn't resist at this price. That's about 60-70$ per wheel less than they usually cost.

I always comment on how tiny 17" aftermarket rims look on our car. It's okay though, the GT1s are pretty nice, and you're a more performance-oriented fellow anyway, right? You'll get better runs with smaller, lighter rims!

Btw, did you ever return my two voicemails and PM?

If you haven't finalized your order yet, you might want to reconsider the SSR GT1 18s - yes, they're heavier than the 17s but still relatively light for 18s (18.5-19lb) and certainly much lighter than the stock 17s, and yes, they're $100 more per rim but the look and better handling are well worth it, IMO, though I admit I'm a bit biased...

Yeah, I wouldn't mind 18's, and might even prefer them, but overall that would run me at least an extra 1000$ including rim and tire cost over what I am paying right now.

Plus, I would be wasting a perfectly new set of tires I have on right now.

I photoshop lowered tel___'s car from the archives--he has a white CLS with 17"rims--and it looked really good from all angles. Plus, the GT1's looked a little too big in the 18's. The spokes looked like they were getting too long and thin.

I'll put them on without mounting the tires and see how they look. Hell, the shipping was only 26$ so if they are not perfect I'll send them back.

Well two things:

You could always save the stock wheels and tires you have on them for the winter time (unless they're Z-rated summer tires?) and the more you lower your car, the better 17s will look.

hehe.. too big in the 18's ??

But for these particular wheels, the 17's will look big enough.. if you are more into speed, that should work out for you well..

GT1s are one of my favorite wheels ever, great choice!!

Thanks fellas.

goldn1--the modas were always the wheels I thought I would end up with and they look great on your car. In the end getting the GT1's for 299 each and having them only weigh 16+ lbs. won me over.

For real! One dusting and that was about it. Great winter. Just not looking forward to this drought of a summer. Probably restrictions on washing cars.

What's "dusting"? You can't wash your car in summer?
