Need car ideas for my dad....
Damn i didnt realize how fast time flys by.. but i need to look quick for somthing for my dad. His lease on his 99 RL is up in August, so i have about 3 weeks to research a car for him....
What ya guys think would be good for him? This is what hes looking for.. under 45k, AWD or FWD.... thats pretty much it. He doesnt like the TLS... he says its too small.
So what ya guys think for somthing under 45k and thats AWD or FWD and that is the size of the current RL?
What ya think about that passat w8, ya think its cool or a joke?
Also i was thinking a Audi a6...

i would get the Audi allroad quattro, that car will take your 330...talk him into the 6-speed...
those cars are so hott
im gonna have to say the audi A6...or a if he could wait a bit, the new E-class in 4matic
if hes into SUV's, the X5 would be the top pick.
other options:
s80 volvo..

I'd definitely consider these cars:
1. Audi A6 (4.2 or 2.7T)
2. Volvo S80 T6
3. Cadillac DeVille DTS
Since you said FWD or AWD, I guess the Q is out =)
If he does consider RWD, then the Q45, the Lexus GS400, and the Merc E320 are all good choices.
Unfortunately $45k only gets you a loaded BMW 525i (not even a 530i ... bastages).

I suggest 3 brands
#1 Volvo(if I wasn't such a Honda/Acura , Toyota/Lexus fan this would be my ride, they are nice car and EXTREMELY SAFE)
#2 Jag(that new Type R or R type is like 400 HP A REAL SCREAMER )
#3 Audi A6 2.7 30 valve(5 valves a cylinder)turbo loaded(nice car it will run with the a CL-S(concidering it does 0-60 in 6 flat:P )
the passat W8 I don't know if I'd get it yet cause it's only been out for a year or 2 usually when I look at a new motor in a car. I let them produce it 2-3 atleast cause the first 1 or 2 can have "bugs" in them. plus that 2.7 been around for awhile and everyone I asked them if they like the car/motor and most of them said it's a great car

As the owner of a Passat V6 (4motion) wagon, I can say from direct experience that an expensive VW is NOT the way to go. First, the car is smaller than the CL/TL so I don't think he'll like it just for that reason.
The main reason why I don't recommend the VW W8, and you can read the VW bulletin boards yourself if you want, is that the W8 is nothing more than a regular Passat with some cosmetic additions and a "faster" engine. A big complaint with the W8 has been the low torque, which makes it much slower (off the mark) than many other cars in the 270 HP range.
From personal experience, I can also tell you that the build quality of the VW does not match that of Acura--meaning the interior is all plastic and is squeeks and creeks with the changes in the seasons and temperatures.
Also you will see on may VW bulletin boards that the service experience leaves a lot to be desired and Volkswagen of America needs to do some revamping of their customer service skills if they're going to keep owners in $35,000 + cars.
To sum up my ownership experience, the Passat starts in the mid $20,000 range. The build quality is acceptable for that price point. However, when you take the exact same car and beef it up (my V6 was $32,000), the plastic-on plastic creeks and squeeks become more annoying and less acceptable.
There have been times that I've felt I was ripped off for paying over $30,000 for this car. I wouldn't be able to live with myself if I payed close to $40,000 for it.
Just beware.

If you want a big front wheel drive sedan that is tasteful, the S80 is one of the few. The Q45 should be just as bad in the snow as any other rear wheeler. I wouldn't recommend a RWD car if he is the slightest bit hestitant.
How about the Saab 9-5? The modest 2002 face-lift really helped the car!

If daddy doesn't mind driving "last year's" car, then I also recomend the Mercedes E320 4matic. The new E-classes are just around the corner and Time Mag. just did an article on great car deals. the E320 was one of them (around 45k). So the 4matic (awd) should be just under 50k.

The Q is hot man!!! I told you my friend has a 02 black on black. The car rides like a dream !!! My friend has had no problems with the Q in the snow. They have had it for almost 8 to 9 months. I believe they got it with navi for 51,000 or 52,000 k cash. They bought 2 cars on the same day . A 01 or 02 i30 and the 02 Q.
