Near Stock A/F Ratio

Just FYI since it seems people have a wide range of A/F ratio and the subsequent problems with the Unichip.

Since removing all items I have been monitoring the A/F ratio with only the headers installed. Right now I am running, at WOT, about 12.5:1. However, I have seen it dip down into the 11's on occasion but it is not repeatable. The most consistent number is 12.5:1.

Also, without the blower the system seems to adjust quicker and get back to stoichiometric ratio sooner after getting on it. It may have to do with the reduced fuel pressure fluctuation, just a guess though.

Are you recommending we have the chips tuned to hit this A/F ratio ?

Nope, but it is probably close. This would be on the safe side but it could probably be taken up to about 13.0:1.

I was mainly commenting on how the car currently performs and what the numbers were. I don't see much power being extracted from this with those A/F numbers.

I can only remember one other person who actually dyno'd that high for their stock A\F ratio and I think it was darrinb .. I had a 12.0 and so did most others, and then the original west coast guys for the chip had 11.0's stock.

weird

Actually, with the stock exhaust manifold, it would richen up. There would be less scavenging occuring which would dilute the air mixture but with the same fuel added.

I know, maybe it is the mid 50 degree temps in the morning and also being on the road with good airflow. As opposed to being on the dyno with limited air flow and warmer conditions.

So are you saying that all of our AFR's are off since we are stationary on the dyno? will the moving cold air skew it that much?

So then all of us who had custom tuning will probably be off once winter comes full force .....

EDIT: this is my first winter with the mugen cooling mods and I can tell already that my car takes a tad longer to warm up .. so I guess coolant temp is going to stay alot cooler and we all know how sensitive the CLS is to that when it comes to AFR.

Green = Stock
Red = Pre-programmed UniChip
Blue = Custom UniChip tune

I was pretty lean instock triml about 12.4:1 until that dreaded dip right after VTEC.

You can see the Pre-programmed map was way too lean.

The custom tune leaned me out to around 13.4:1 and took some fuel out where the dip was in the stock map.

Scalbert how are you monitoring your A/F while driving? I was thinking of getting the new aem wideband controller and gauge all in one. Have you ever seen and what do you think about it?

With the TechEdge WB02 Monitor.

http://wbo2.com/

It is currently for sale but probably already spoken for. See the Black Market section for details.

I ended up paying about $300 for it but it was the DIY kit. I had to solder all the components to the board.
