Haven't heard anything for a while on the DVD upgrade? Anyone know anything? Someone has to have an inside connection somewhere to get this info. I am itching to get a better coverage DVD.

I have to drive about 2-Miles from my house before a single road even shows up on the NAV screen.
Even then, it’s only the larger streets.
The NAV is GREAT for long trips on the interstates or when traveling from town to town, but once you get into the boonies it’s LOST.
Those roads have been “mapped” into the available database for at least 2-years, but Acura has to get its head out of its ASS and get them on the DVD.

It works fine, I have heard that every Fall Acura comes out with an update and the next update is supposedly suppose to have many more roads, like country roads, and more POI...like the one that the new hondas have

theres nothing wrong functionally with the current version... it is simply lacking ALOT of coverage.
I live in a city of just about 1 million people... not huge... but certainly decent sized. On top of it, Albany is the capital of New York...
The detailed coverage here is definately lacking... most side streets arent mapped... pretty much just the roads with traffic on them.
Points of interest are lacking too... id say it only contains like 50 local restaurants in the database.
NavTech (who supplies the database used for our navi) fully mapped this area over 2 years ago now... yet it hasnt shown up in the navi dvd.
The fucked up part? My area is mapped on the old hard drive version of our navi in the 99 TL and RL's.
Kind of annoying.
Also annoying is that none of canada is mapped... not even geographically like the outline of the lakes or something. Its just blank...
Yet again, on the hard drive version of our navi... Canada, or at least Montreal and Toronto... are mapped.
Makes no sense seeing as there is plenty of space left on the DVD.

Kansas City is pretty well mapped out so I have no complaints.
What I am upset about is that they decided to forget about this year's update, possibly come up with something minor around the first of the year....no telling when the full coverage DVD will be available and at what price.
By the time it does come out, we won't even have our cars anymore.

thx mang
but yea, the TL and RL DO have the SAME navi as us... BUT...
in all years prior to 2000 Acura's had Hard Drive based systems rather then the DVD based systems they have now.
The CL never had the old system because the car started in '01.

NavTech the company puts out several updates per year of their maps. I have a nav system for my iPaq that is based on the NavTech information (maps and poi). I get updates twice a year on the maps, and several improvements to the software (a 3d-view is in beta now).
I went with a portable GPS solution instead of the Acura one. I get the same maps and poi, but can use it in any car and on foot.
Last summer went to DC area. Parked the car, noted the location on the iPaq gps, and toured the city. Got hungry, pulled out the iPaq, found a good restaurant, called for reservations, and it guided my feet there. Once done, clicked on my parked car and it brought me to within 10 feet of it!

Mine is aftremarket and I'd have to say the best NAVI availible to date, but my question is it only uses 1 DVD and covers all of North America and even has 200 POI for Tucson!!!!! there is something like 2500 for LA. It knows where goverment land is, parks, even has color coded streets based on assumed traffic levels. Not to mention 3-d 1st person dashboard view. Why if all this info can fit on one DVD, don't they offer a more inclusive version for our stock Navis? It's not like the info hasn't already been gathered.
