Navi Update

After seeing the Q45 Navi I'm a but jealous. Does anyone know when and if our Navi will get an upgrade to something as attractive as the Q's? Colors are way better and more pleasing to the eye, not to mention a bit more refined. Do you think that the system would stay the same and DVD's would get better???

I'm betting that it's the same as our Navi...an Alpine unit.

So think we can get the DVD and have it work? Would the A/C be on that DVD or is that something else?

The Navi in infinitis really isnt any better looking than ours except for that Birds Eye View crap.

But in all usefullness.. the infiniti navi sucks donkey balls! It is still CD based... and extremely slow.

It isnt made by Alpine... it is some company who only makes navis for Nissan. I forget name.

The only one who has a better Nav than us is Lexus... and it looks better too... they really put time into it.

But Acura had a better one first so... fuck them!

Do you think that there will be a substantial change or will they keey the DVD format? With the touch screen it should be easy for newer DVD's to be read and used. The system may be a bit slow but should still work.

The Lexus Navi can't be used while the car is in motion. No matter how good it may be that makes it virtually useless as far as I'm concerned.

I believe Acura has the best Navi on the market and MOST user friendly, which is most attractive to me ! Have you demo'the MB navi ? You have to have a ph.d to use it ! If Lexus doesn't work while moving, what's the use of it ?

You guys are right. The new Q has the DVD-based navi... I didnt think they had updated it already since the CD based navi just came out for 2001.5 models.

<font face="Verdana, Arial" size="2">
With the new Infiniti Navigation System*, we've switched from a CD-based system to one that utilizes the latest DVD technology. It's the same superior GPS supported system, with features like easy-to-read BIRDVIEW 3-D maps, but with the additional benefit of DVD

This means that a single disc contains maps for virtually all of the United States, and the disc does not need to be changed when entering a new mapping area.
</font>
Eiuther way I still think the Lexus Navi has topped ours.

The new model CAN be programmed while moving... it has better voice prompts... more detailed mapping... and a better looking interface.

It also recalculates routes much faster then ours.

Not to mention it has DVD movie capability from the factory.

Either way, I cant complain... Acura's navi still competes and its been available for 2 years before all the others.

Either way I don't think it matters much. According to some of the non-Navi owners, our Navi units will be obsolete year after next. That gives me two more years of reasonable use.

If you only knew how much use I'm getting out of my Navi (all day today and for the rest of this week)...if only you knew....

Vector2,
You have to purchase a new disc from Acura yearly to get the "updated" info you want.

the only thing i think the q45 navi has is the birdseye view. the q45 does NOT have touchscreen though, so it would be harder to use (ever try using the buttons to go through all the menus and stuff?).

so between the birdseye view and the touchscreen, i'd go with the touchscreen...birdseye view doesn't contribute to making it easier to use.

Whatever happened to that guy who was suppose to be selling back-ups of the new dvd for $25. He made that one post then disapeared. I'm sure someone on the Cl-tl boards works at a place with a dvd burner they can borrow and help us out.

I agree with Soopa. I have Nav in both my CL-S and RX300 and the Lexus version just seems more refined.

Acura version only advantage (IMO):
* is overall user friendliness

Lexus version advantages (IMO):
* Accuracy (icon never "floates" off road)
* Colors/Voice

Just like the Lex version better. One more thing about accuracy, both Navs wll eventually get you where you need to go. There just seems to be better route choices by the Lex unit. For example, I have used both units to get to my sister's new house which is about 40 miles away from mine. The Lex nav took me there in the most direct route. The Acura nav had me traveling through many "back roads". I found no difference in either "easy" or "direct" modes. My .02
