Navi Question

Is the CL Navi system integrated at all with the BOSE system? My friend's 740i has everything running through it.

I'm not sure what you mean, but when the Navi speaks it cuts the power to the speakers about 50% so you can hear what it's saying.

Well, does it have an EQ or any other "sound system" related features like "stadium" or "echo"?

It doesn't have any of those features which are now seem standard.. There is no mute button, no preset settings (i.e. Rock,Jazz,Beat, etc..) If it wasn't for the 6 disc in dash changer I would have gotten an aftermarket sound system... The Bose speakers do work wonders, but they aren't loud enough.. Only do a good job at automatically equalizing everything... That's why a woofer is a must on this thing.. The factory bass settings let's you crank the bass up all the way without getting any rumbling.. However, it cuts that low end thump that one might be looking for... Navi kit could be improved with internet connectivity or online maintainance... Different operator voices would be a neat a cheap option.. which i think could happen trough software (i.e. DVD disc).. I'm going to ask Acura if they added that feature to their new version release that's due this fall.

no bose system does not have a eq setting like the ones on explorers or bmw's. But it does mute out the front speakers when its talking.

Thanks for the replies. I'm glad I didn't spend the $2k on the Navi. If the unit was integrated with the BOSE system, I would have. I am so jealous of my best friend's new 740i, what a car! Hopefully, Acura will have something similar to the BMW Navi when I start looking at new cars again in 2 years or so.

You get what you pay. For a $60k car or however much a 7-series is, I expect a lot more features then a CL

In one way, it's really good that the Navi is not totally integrated with the Bose system.

I like the Navi better than any aftermarket system I have seen. I'm sure that will change, but for now it's the best. On the other hand, the Bose sytem (again -my opinion) is just awful sounding.

Our Pioneer head unit with the in-dash 6CD unit is the only decent piece of the Bose system, but after you've gone to the trouble of changing speakers and amps, it becomes a drag on the system.

In short, being able to keep the great Navi and ditch the cruddy, stock system is a good feature, and wouldn't be so easy with a tight integration.

My Dad has a new 740 BMW with Navi (which he doesn't use). We went on a long, out of state jaunt together, and he couldn't believe how much better (and easier) the Acura Navi is.

The Navi they put in the "New Q" looks pretty cool, and it's DVD based, but I don't know how good the interface is. It's possible that it could be superior to the Acura Navi; nothing else is.

Oh boy, don't get me wrong here. I certainly cannot afford a 740i (with the M package) at $65k! And, I'm not comparing it with my CL-S. All I'm saying is that it's by far the best luxury automobile I've ever seen or ridden in.
