NAVI conversion - Possible?
NAVI conversion - Possible?
i was wondering if it was possible, worth the cost, or if anyone has pulled it off. Dropping a navi into a non-navi setup? I know it be alot of work but anyone done it, heard of it being done?
thanks
thanks
Everything is possible if you've got enought time and money
BUT, IMHO, You should have bought a car w/ navi, if you wanted a car w/ navi

Buy an aftermarket unit, or sell your car and buy one with navi. The cost and hassle aren't worth doing the conversion unless you're an electrical engineer and get a kick out of ripping your car apart and playing w/ wires...

yea, was afraid of that. i waited long enough to get my hands on one. thanks though monster, Stein actually lives in my area (newtown, Pa) so that could help, i wouldnt attempt this till summer though. hopefully ill make it happen, ill do a write up as well when i do.
i know it doesnt look as clean but i would just hook up a screen that has navigation....i have steering wheel controls, touchscreen, and directions that come through a the speakers just like stock....oh yea, and a bad ass stereo system!!
ill have to get pics when i get home....i have the kenwood 8017, i mounted it where the stock radio goes. fits VERY VERY nice and looks stock. nitequill has the 7015 with the street effectz kit (i think) and it looks amazingly stock!

I got mine for 1400 at Grand Prarie Audio in Texas.
It is possible if you have the time and guts to try it.

Tom, you should finally do something to your damn SMR. It's begging you for a mod or 9. Start off with the dvd player, mang. I mean, it's actually making fun of you, because it's so stock.

I also don't want some aftermarket controller stuck to my steering wheel either. Im soo surprised that none of the big electronics companies have come up with a way to use the factory controls

yea, ive got a tv tuner, navi, back up camera, steering wheel controls....itll do anything...i dont think the 8017 is any more capable than the 7015 (besides the 5.1 processor.)

here is another view, i REALLY wish i could have the stock navi but it's too much money and trouble when i can just buy a 900$ unit and plug it in to the back of this with no problems, also the controller to keep steering wheel control is hidden and plug and play like nite said
Thanks for clearing this up for me guys
Im excited now that I know I can still use the factory controls. Now I just have to find a way to rip that money from my hand. OMG those molds from streeteffectz are perfect. Maybe I should buy one now incase he stops doing them by the time I buy my HU

yea, mine matches PERFECT and quality is A+, for what it's worth you may notice a minor gap on the left and bottom, but this is result of me, i still haven't perfectly centered the unit.
my suggestion, buy the metra kit, this will allow the unit to go in with no frustrations. the fiberglass mold in my opinion LOOKS better but you need to drill your own mounting holes for the unit.
