Nav. System options on a CL w/out nav.

The title kinda says it.

I have a CL-S without the factory Nav. System. and I'd like to get a Navigation System installed in it. I have to face it, I'm a moron when it comes to directions.

I thought of getting the Garmin Street Pilot.
Pros: I like Garmins, and they are fairly affordable when it comes to nav. system.
cons: I really don't feel like drilling my dash to mount it.

I kinda felt like going to a junkyard and getting what I need to setup the factory system in my car. But that's probably more involved that I want to get into.

last option I thought of is getting some slick audio player nothing over the edge, but some touch-screen audio player with Nav.System built in. What would that mean with the Bose system? Do I need to get speakers n stuff too? I know the maxima's each speaker is individually amplified and that becomes uncool when you change your head unit only. (how is the CL?).
I saw some cheap ones at best buy n stuff. (forgot the brand) and I want something that is of decent quality. I really like the Eclipse system, but that's $2700 just for the unit.
For that price, I'll buy me a map, and some notes paper and draft me a real detailed direction set before I head out.. (i'm not that rich).

Let me know if you guys have other alternatives, or ideas.

Thanks a bunch,
Phil

I would just swap out the factory radio with a flat panel touch-screen w/ dvd+navi
There is a bunch to choose from, and will be a lot better.

any recomendations if I go with that option?

How does the rest of the bose system deal with a new head unit?

Thanks,
-Phil

i'm listening in on this thread. I remember replacing my bose system on my maxima...what a pain in the ass that was.

If i read it correctly the in the Audio/Video forum, the amplifier to the car speakers is in the trunk (unlike the maxima's individual amplifiers) and all you need to do is replace the headunit. Anyone care to chime in? I'm not too familiar with the subject.

if nothing comes up on this thread, I'll quiz the Acura guy. The car's going in sometime soon to get the top piece of the dashboard replaced.

I'll post here anything I can find out.

this is what i did to my non-nav CL. i actually like it better than the OEM nav version since the a/c controls are not integrated into the nav display and i can hook up a dvd player to the screen without the need for any adapters.

MiK3Y: WOW, that's really cool.

did you get that whole piece custom built? That's really slick! I mean really nice!

If you don't mind PM me some stuff you had to do to get that setup.. or post here, whichever.
if you don't mind, a rough $ would be great too.

again, that's a real nice setup!

its been about 3 years since i did this so i dont remember exact prices. the new navi-version dash piece was maybe about $110 and the new hazard light button was maybe $20? i ordered them from an acura parts website..i forget the name of it now, but i've seen other people refer to it here before. as far as parts go, thats about it. all the labor i did myself.

the a/c control wires easily reach down there with no problem. everything else used was made from wood. the support for the screen, the face plate was made from 1/8" masonite and a router and the mounting brackets for the face plate were all made from wood as well.

That is by far one of the cleanest aftermarket set-ups I have seen in our cars, What are the model numbers on those alpines?

How did you find out which monitor would fit?

how did you cut the plate so neatly. the buttons and everything fit PERFECT!

P.S. Nice music selection.
I'm wishing the CL had an mp3 player, I'm burning CDs like mad with A State Of Trance compilations and PVD's live sets.

VERY NICE!!

I had to take a double and triple take on that one.. ive seen nice installs before that is off the hook! i thought was a factory peice where you mounted the 7998 and the A/C controls.. im definatly gonna look into doing something like this when the time comes to add Navi and an aftermarket radio to my car.. i kick myself in the ass sometimes because i used to work at circuit city and could get awesome deals all the time on this stuff and now its more expensive
