This has done it since I got the car. As soon as I put it in reverse and start to press on the gas, and rolling, I then hear a weird noise under the hood, or behind the dash. Kinda a grinding/mechanical noise. Hard to explain. But I drove 2 CL-Ss and they both did this. What is this noise? Is this normal? Anyways, thanks!

 

Also to add, I think it only happens in the morning when the car is cold and I first back up.. I can't remember if it does it all the time.

 

THAT NOISE is probably the sideview mirror tilting downward....!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I have noticed it as well.... Check it out!!!

 

Its the ABS. Its normal. If you have the windows down you'll also hear a clicking sound from under the car. That's the brakes adjusting themselves.

 

Read Chod's FAQ, it's probably just the ABS charging. Happens at 4mph and 12mph after you start your car, even happens in reverse.

I still think it's probably the mirror tiliting... he said it happens as soon as the car is dropped into Rev. Must be the mirror moving....

 

By now any CL driver should reconize the mirror tilt noise and the ABS pump noise, anything else... should be checked, like tranny noise and the EVAP canister purge Valve.

 

Well he actually says it's when he presses on the gas and starts rollling.. Probably not the mirror..

 

True, however he just got his a couple weeks ago. So it wouldn't be surprising if he didn't know.

 

I guess I am deaf. I don't hear any noises at startup.

If you didn't notice, here it is.

The side mirror has machanical whining while the ABS buzzes.
