Not necessarily, the '96-'98 GTs are pretty slow 215 HP ('96-'97) 225 HP ('98), stock. Even with a manual, it would be a tough task to beat a CLS. Looking at 15.0-15.4 typical stock times...

Not in 97, those are real dogs (GTs)...Here is a breakdown as well as I can give:

Stock HP(crank - advertised)

Pre-'93 GT (5.0 OHV) 205-225 - varies per MAF/Speed Density, Forged/Hypereutectic Pistons (not that many of these are still stock, though)...

93 Cobra (5.0 OHV) 245
94-95 GT (5.0 OHV) 225
94-95 Cobra (5.0 OHV) 245
95 Cobra R (5.8 OHV) 300
96-97 GT (4.6 SOHC) 215
98 GT (4.6 SOHC) 225
96-98 Cobra (4.6 DOHC) 305
99-01 GT (4.6 SOHC) 260
99, 01 Cobra (4.6 DOHC) 320
00 Cobra R (5.4 DOHC) 385
01 Bullit (4.6 SOHC) 270

Whats so special about the Bullit Mustangs? I saw a green one on the highway. I didn't have my M3 that day (was driving my Camry) so I couldn't 'try' to mess with him.

I think the only changes from the GT model are the wheels, billet gas lid, pedals, badging...PULL T: correct if me if im wrong! I don't think they've added any HP from the GT.

The Bullitt includes the cosmetic stuff you mentioned plus some actual performance parts:

Underdrive pulleys (though they are a very mild underdrive compared to my Steeda Pulleys)
13 inch front brakes identical to 96+ Cobra brakes (though with the bullitt, the calipers are painted red)
Subframe Connectors
Tokico Shocks
Revised Intake Manifold
Different Cat-Back system

Some Additional Cosmetic Items:

Far superior seats
'Retro' Guages

According to most dynos guys with Bullitts have done, the rear wheel Hp/Tq is around +10 peak. However, at all points on the graph, the Bullitt has higher output, with +15-20 at some points in the sub 4000 RPM range. This 'area under the curve' is of course what is important, rather than peak numbers. It is very evident even on the Butt-ometer that it has way more low end than a stock GT.

A good friend of mine has a Bullitt and he was able to run a 13.8 bone stock and 13.7 with some drag radials. I will add that he is a very good, experienced racer.

that's why i was trying to line up w/him. He was a big guy and his passenger was big so I figured I'd stand a good chance of beating him.
Good info Pull_T!

True, very true, I'm giving you factory numbers. FWIW, the 01s are at or above this level. The 99s, of course had their issues, but after the recall for the extrude honing on the intake, they are where they should be. Now actually being able to get a good 1/4 mile time out of it with the IRS/wheelhop is another matter. But then again, many people do not care about 1/4 times as much as myself...

I also see that I erred in listing the Bullitt at 270, the factory rating is 265, so the dyno evidence would point to Ford actually underrating a motor

The older mustangs aren't really that big of a threat to the CLS , Now the newer ones are more of a threat than anything . They have 260 hp i dunno the torque on them but i know they run low to mid 14s in the 1/4 .

Sounds good in theory, but hardly anyone has kept those old 5.0s stock. They can be anywhere from mid 14 to 8 second cars...

A buddy has one of the CHP pursuit models (notchback) and it does low 14s high 13s with a few minor mods (K&N and a few other goodies -- no major internal work).

302lb of torque to be exact . But if u look at there 0-60 times they have us by .4 of a sec and on the 1/4 it's the same 14.8 It's kinda like they beat us off the start b/c of all that damn torque they have but it evens back out at around 90 to 100 mph . I would love to race one of the new Mustang GT's ....and SPANK IT !

No way, chief. 99+ GTs are not 14.8 second cars. I have seen best stock times of anywhere from 13.7 (5 speed, good driver, good weather) to 14.3 (auto, mediocre driver, hot weather)...

Unless you can roll off consistent 13.9s (which you may very well, I am not familiar with your mods), you will not have any success against a late model (99+) GT. The GT will pull you down low, through the 8th, through the traps and as far as you want to go....
