Take a really close look at the threads. Outside threads can easily be cleaned up with a 60 degree "V" file or knife file. Botched inner threads require a thread file with the proper pitch. As in 16 tpi or whatever it is. TPI = threads per inch. Find someone or shop with a pitch gage to find the tpi. Usually crossthreading only messes up the first thread or so. Good luck.
