My g/f just got a jetta and...

It is a used 2001 Jetta GLS v4. Its her first car, and she just got it today. She drove about 20 miles with me to my house to show my parents, and then I asked her to drive it around the neigborhood. Well by accident I had it in neutral and revved it a little (can this hurt the car...it was no where near red line so I didnt think giving a rev could hurt). Anyhow I was driving nicely in the neighborhood, when the car started overreving by itself. I would be driving at like 15 mph and then the tachometer would jump to 5000 rpm and go back down. She said the whole way down she didnt have this problem, so of course she blamed it on me. Well she drove it back home, and had the same problem the whole time. Is there a known tranny issue with a 2001 GLS v4 jetta? Is the transmission causing this problem? Thanks for the help guys.

get it checked, sounds like the transmission to me. Same thing happened to me when my tranny went out when I owned a CL. The revving didnt do anything to cause what you described.

That really sucks, I guess that shows not to buy a used car without extensively getting it checked out.

first..i believe that is I4..not V4..and i have never seen a V4 engine
and secondly..that reveed stuff will not hurt the engine
but jump the 5k rpm is weird...i believe it is still under warranty..
bring it back to VW dealer to have them check out..
good luck

1. Dump her and find a dumber girl you can blame everything on.

OR

2. Blame it on her and see if she's stupid enough.

you didnt put it into drive while revving in neutral did you? if yes, its all your fault

btw, i think ford made a v4 a long time ago, but scrapped it b/c it was too efficient

hmm. I think you forgot to include 1 part. When you were testing out the jetta's back seats, you didn’t have any lubrication and you took the oil differential out of the car to use as lube on your African American penis. I think that could have done it. But what do I know I just punish allot, allot of pussy that is.

I hope you can get it working well once you get some new differential oil in it.

Holler and be safe.

That's the only thing I can find related to the transmission. Take it to the dealership soon. Transmission isn't something you want to put off getting fixed.
