My fourth gear sux

I was racing my CL-S against my buddies TL-S and off the line I jumped out on him but at about 120 he just powered around me like I was not moving. Before that speed I had put the jump on him and he wasnt makin ground at all.

Both cars are stock so what gives. I have bigger wheels and he has stock but I would guess that would hurt my launch if anything.

The only other diffrence is I have the replacement tranny and his is the original.

What gives.

check your imrc valve. tl-s and cl-s should run reasonably close under most conditions.

Don't forget they also likely changed your chip to a kinder softer shifting algorithm when they did your tranny....

when you shifted into 4th can also be key if you short shifted at around 105-110 and he took it right to about 115

I checked the IMRC once before and it seemed to be functional but I have also read that it could be intermitent. Though it seems like if it wasnt working he would have just blown me away. ?

I let the car shift its self and it was shifting at the proper points so I dont think I short shifted.

How much is the IMRC I may just buy one to know for sure its working at all times.

.
so that proablly is it...it does short shift when in auto your friend probablly used SS mode and though he was behind he was acctually going faster than you...ill try to make this short ,but essentially two cars exact same power/weight /gearing/blah blah one leaves a split second early, all things being equal should continue to pull away the entire time...albiet very slowly distance should be continously gained...same scenerio car get s a jump and the other car hangs back one to two cars but not loosing any ground is acctually going faster than the car out front...again if he was in SS id say what happened was the cumlitive effect of him going faster and you not maxing out the gears

I heard about this on another thread but i thought it was BS. Is it legal for them to do this? I dont want my tranny to die and have a slower car when they return it...

Auto VS SS or even better GATE SHIFTING, the difference become more visible the faster you are going like if you leave it in auto when going from 1st to 2nd in auto you dont hit VTEC right away, but if you gate shit and hold it a little passed red line you go right into 2nd gear VTEC and you can even chirp going into 2nd (I always do and i have 235-45 tires)
When you leave it in auto going from 2nd to 3rd you are even further away from VTEC and it takes a lot longer to get in to VTEC that it does from 1st to 2nd. Here you loose a lot of time and the guy who is in SS and shifting a little passed red line begins to catch up fast. Then when you go into 4th in auto your car pretty much dies but in SS if you hold it to right before it cuts the fule you hit VTEC in half the time and it really starts pulling again so basically the guy in SS is in VTEC and you are not which is why he would kill you in 4th...

4th gear is always a real drag, even if you hold it high in 3rd before shifting. I just never bother to take it past 3rd anymore. If I can't accomplish something by 110mph, it's probably just not worth doing anymore
