My first race in my CL (me vs. E39? 5 series)
On my drive down to college I came up on a '97-'98ish 5 series with dinan badging. I don't know which of the 5-series models it is because that was debadged. I'm not sure exactly what the guy has done to his car (all I see is a non-stock exhaust), but I just pass him cruising at around 80. Right after I pass him he pulls in behind me kind of close. So far I've only been driving the CL for about a week, but I figure "what the hell, I'm game". I push the pedal down as far as it'll go, but the car isn't accelerating too quickly. I realize that it's cause I'm in 6th and at around 3K rpm. I down shift to 5th and start picking up speed a bit faster. By this point I'm a little past 100mph, and the guy is still on my tail. Unfortunately we were coming up on a bit of traffic, so I had to slow back down to 70. We both maneuver, safely, around the traffic and get some open highway again. So I'm back in fifth and I take it to around 5.5K rpm before I shift into 6th (I'm still kind of scared to push the car all that much). He's still following closely so I move over one lane keeping my same speed to give him a chance to pass. He immediately starts reeling me in and passes me like it's nothing. That's when we both shut down (I'm at around 120). He slows down a bit for me to catch up and we both give eachother the thumbs up and go on our separate ways. All I have to say is that that had to be one of the biggest rushes I've had in a while. I want to add that while we were racing, there was no one ahead of us so we didn't endanger anyone but ourselves. I know it's kind of irresponsible, but in the moment I guess I just didn't think of any consequences. Oh yeah, and after our first little race (before we hit traffic) an E55 flew by us weaving through traffic. That thing what pretty f-ing fast too.

Tip: do not use 5th or 6th gear when you run someone. drop to 4th upwards of 80 mph and 3rd around 70. Your car can handle it and you'll see how fun it is to get the CLS to get up and go on the highway!

"Giant slayer. A.K.A. 3rd gear!" lol True. I need to get myself a 6-speed. 5speed sucks.

He still would have walked away from you, but like they said, third gear would have given you a little more speed.
And Dinan is stingy with their badges, so if you see one on a car, its most likely a Dinan car which means its gonna be quick.

Alright, thanks guys. I'll definitely keep that in mind. Still getting a feel for the car, but so far I love it. I upgraded from an 02 i4 Accord Coupe, so you can imagine how much of an improvement this car is.
