my first day with v1

So I got my V1 last night. Spent some time to get it hardwired today... lost a fuse in the process, I think I dropped it to the back of the fuse box. Finsihed worked with the spare fuse from the underhood fuse box.

Went out for a little drive. Saw 3 cops. One was on highway. He wasn't using laser since his window was up. I guess he wasnt using radar either bc my new V1 did not make any noise. 2nd and 3rd cop was actually about 500 feet apart on different streets. They've alrady pulled over somebody. I was glad bc i was going about 55 over speed limit (it was late, I was the only car). V1 again stayed silent. So I assumed the radars werent on.
So I have decided to drive slow as if I don't have a V1, until V1 catches my first radar.

I wouldn't be too in a hurry to received that first radar signal or lasar, especially if your the only one on the road.

Those cops may have been calibrating their vascar. I noticed on one post that someone said that vascar doesn't work at night, but here in NC, cops like to put orange cones, construction barrels and little reflectors on the sides of the road. And yes, instant on is a bitch.

What's bc??

Congrats on the V1, I've enjoyed mine (upgraded) since '92. Hoped you also got the remote display.

I know you mentioned "hard wiring", but if you can point the antenna at the navi screen it'll give you a full on laser alert. At least that way you can partially test the laser portion.

I *thought* I was in 35, but it may have been 45 now that I think about it. Anyways, thanks for the great instruction posted on hard wiring V1 / remote display.

Yes I do have remote display, mounted on top of steering column. I hope my $440 is well spent. ("bc" is short for "because". At least for me it is)

Ya, any LCD display will trigger a full-on laser alert. In fact, many things will. For instance:

On Route 101 in Silicon Valley, there is a HUGE LCD sign by siliconview.com that makes my V1's laser report full strength when I drive by it.

Also, I drove by a Taxi's hamburgers the other day and they had BIG neon lettering pointing towards traffic and the neon signs made the laser go off. (I pulled around and pointed my car right at them to double check).

Maybe someone should e-mail Mike Valentine and ask him if this is normal?

PS - I just got and installed (hard-wired) my V1 a few days ago

jit.........it's worth the money trust me. The best thing is knowing there is a cop in a sea of shopping mall microwave signals. I've been able to spot a cop with as many as 8 erroneous signals--the V1 flashed and sure enough, he was there. Also the range and sensitivity on these is great. Of course with instant on--you're screwed no matter what unless you have a "volunteer" in front of you.

Congrat on the V1. I've truly enjoyed mine and the setup is clean (thanks Shawn). I think the remote is a must have and mine is installed in the coin tray.

I immediately increased the sensitivity of K-band on my new unit because I do not think I have a lot of K-band false alerts. I would say my area is 50/50 K vs. Ka so I really need the best K I can get.

BTW, VASCAR does work at night, there's nothing to stop it from working at night but it is very difficult to identify marks in the dark. Most decent cops wouldn't waste their time, why not just use radar? In any case, VASCAR is a show-stopper for all of us radar detector owners. I've mostly seen it employed using lines on the pavement and signs or bridges. But if you look at the VASCAR manual, you'll see over a dozen scenarios, some of which even a police department couldn't understand. If I got a VASCAR ticket at night, I would fight it in court from a visual aspect.

I just installed my V1 and remote view less then a week ago. I really love it.....can anyone give some tips on what to do to get the most out of the unit?
For me, most of the security cameras set off the V1, including the traffic light cameras. Mostly I get the X-band warnings, but sometimes I get k-band warnings from these cameras...

Is this correct or not.....sometimes I get full laser when I run my finger accross the little laser detector. Does this mean it is working correctly or not? I don't think it does it every single time, just sometimes..
