I'll admit when I first joined this site I felt a little resentment owning a CL-P. I even started a thread about whether it was worth modding it or not. All I know is that its a great car and I truly believe that they both (cl-p and cl-s) are worth modding.

Yea this thread is really old but I was glad to see it.

I own a CL-P and i love it to death but the problems are coming up with the car. For some reason my car keeps misfiring. This morning alone my car misfired three times and it wouldn't let met try again until like ten minutes later which is scaring me. It seems to me like the sparkplugs are done or a sign of trading the car in.

If your talking about the CL-S, no you haven't beaten a CL-S... I'll race you for pinks slips any day (I'm bone stock) ya dorkmonger. I'm surprised you didn't install a 3' tall wing on the back of your trunk.

I tend to agree with you on this one. Theres more of a foundation to work with on the CL-S. I've decided that for the money it would take to enhance the performance on the CL-P and all the risks with the warranty department its best just to make some cosmetic changes.

Dude, with the mods he has (headers, exhaust and intake) it brings the CL-P very close to stock CL-S numbers (250-255hp vs. 260hp). It would be a drivers race at that point.

Look around the boards, there are a few modded CL-P's that have edged out stock CL-S's.

You are right I raced a modded CL-P at the track with I/H, I have an auto with I/H. He would beat every time until about 70, where I would walk him down. The CL-P and CL-S are about even until the CL-S gets into 3rd gear. They have a weak 3rd like the auto CL-S has a weak 4th.

Exactly. And your CL-S is not even stock!

Now imagine a fully modded CL-P vs. a Stock CL-S...

The CL-P's just need to breathe better in order to release more power. Even our stock exhausts are more restricted than the CL-S to keep the HP numbers down.

So now i have a question. Is modding a CL-P ok or should I not even bother doing anything period? I love modding because it's fun when I have extra money to spend a little here and there.

Why wouldnt you mod your CL-P? As you can see you can gain about another ~30hp from the right mods

Free flowing exhaust ~3-5hp (remember we gain more on an exhaust since our factory one is 30% more restriced than type S)
Cold Air Intake ~6-7hp
Headers ~18-22 hp

Sorry about the attitude CT3.2, I'm just tired of the punks who post BS. I was under the impression that the CL-S is much more powerful than the CL-P, even modded. But others are backing you in this thread by hard numbers and actual racing stories of CL-P's like yours competing closely with the stock CL-S.
VERY COOL!

PS: I'll still race you ;-) It would be interesting to see the outcome.
